Job Description:

The Incoming Quality Technician performs incoming quality inspection of printed circuit boards (PCBs), PCB substrates, wafers, mechanical components, and electrical parts to verify conformance to engineering drawings, specifications, quality standards, and documented inspection requirements.

Working in a laboratory or controlled inspection environment, this role independently conducts visual, dimensional, and basic electrical inspections using precision metrology tools, microscopes, electrical test equipment, and inspection systems. The technician identifies and documents defects, maintains traceable inspection records, and supports containment of nonconforming material.

The position partners with Quality Engineering, Supplier Quality, Manufacturing, and related functions to communicate inspection results, escalate quality concerns, support material disposition, and provide accurate data for supplier and process improvement activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform incoming inspection of PCBs, PCB substrates, wafers, mechanical parts, electrical components, and other critical materials using approved procedures, drawings, specifications, and sampling plans.
  • Conduct visual inspections for scratches, cracks, delamination, corrosion, voids, contamination, cosmetic nonconformances, and PCB/SMT workmanship defects, including tombstoned components; cold, bridged, cracked, or disturbed solder joints; excess or insufficient solder; solder icicles or spikes; lifted pads; land damage; and conductor nicks, cuts, or thinning.
  • Use low- and high-magnification microscopy to inspect bonding pads, traces, vias, and surface features for conditions such as annular ring breakout, delamination or blistering, over- or under-etching, via plating voids, PCB warpage, component misalignment, solder balls, and solder splatter.
  • Perform mechanical and dimensional inspections with calibrated measurement tools; compare results with engineering drawings, tolerances, and acceptance criteria.
  • Perform basic electrical checks using oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, power supplies, and related test equipment to verify voltage, frequency, continuity, and specified circuit-board test points.
  • Review Certificates of Conformance, inspection reports, drawings, and other incoming documentation for completeness, traceability, and compliance with requirements.
  • Record inspection results accurately, capture clear defect images, and maintain required data and material traceability in applicable quality systems.
  • Identify, segregate, and escalate nonconforming material; initiate NCMRs or related records and support Quality Engineering with containment and disposition activities.
  • Communicate inspection findings and recurring defect trends to Quality Engineering, Supplier Quality, Manufacturing, and other stakeholders.
  • Support updates to inspection methods, work instructions, defect standards, and continuous improvement activities under guidance from Quality Engineering.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or technical certification in electronics, metrology, manufacturing, quality, or a related discipline preferred.
  • Two to four years of relevant quality experience in incoming inspection, quality inspection, or a comparable role within electronics, semiconductor, or high-precision manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated experience inspecting PCBs, PCB substrates, wafers, precision mechanical components, and/or electrical components using the tools and methods described in this posting.
  • Experience with nonconforming material documentation, inspection data entry, defect imaging, and material traceability.
  • Experience working as an electronics technician, quality technician, inspector, or technician assistant is beneficial.
