Description

The Town of Needham seeks dependable and responsible individuals for the position of Van Driver in the Aging Services Division. Under the direction and supervision of the Transportation Program Coordinator, the part-time Van Driver is responsible for safely transporting senior citizens from their homes to the Center at the Heights (CATH) and other local destinations such as grocery stores and pharmacies.

This position is on-call and scheduled as needed, working roughly 19.5 hours per week.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide safe and dependable transportation to senior citizens.
  • Assist senior citizens with access to and from vans used in transportation activities.
  • Load grocery bundles or other passenger packages into and out of vans during grocery/errands/trips.
  • Perform daily vehicle safety inspections. Maintain vehicle trip, mileage, and inspection logs.
  • Ensure light vehicle maintenance is conducted according to the appropriate schedule and/or requirements.
  • Pass and maintain mandatory training and certifications.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Valid Massachusetts Drivers' License with a clean driving record.
  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Incumbent must be reliable, communicate effectively, and interact tactfully with the elderly population and the public.
  • Have familiarity with relevant technology and devices such as smartphones, including texting, GPS, and use of standard office technology, including computers and email processes.
  • Ability to lift or move up to 20 lbs. and to assist senior citizens to and from the vehicle, supporting a degree of leaning weight as passenger assistance is required.

Preferred Requirements or the Ability to Obtain the Following :
  • Have completed MArtap Training Program within one year of hire.
  • Knowledge of Needham roads and neighborhoods is a plus.
