Job Description

SUMMARY

The Center to Advance Community Health & Equity (CACHE) is housed at the Public Health Institute (PHI) and has expertise to help nonprofit hospitals, health systems, and other stakeholders translate data into better community investments. CACHE helps users interpret data from Community Benefit Insight, and couple it with existing tools and resources for strategic community benefit implementation.

Position Summary

The Senior Clinical Associate, Oral Health Practice Innovation provides clinical subject matter expertise in dentistry and contributes to the design, advancement, and scale of innovative oral health practices, care models, and approaches that improve access, quality, equity, and outcomes. The position supports the development of continuing dental education, practice transformation initiatives, learning collaboratives, and technical assistance designed to strengthen adoption of evidence-informed oral health practices. The Senior Clinical Associate, Oral Health Practice Innovation reports to the Division Director IV.

The position serves as a clinical resource to providers, project teams, and partners, and translates emerging evidence, innovations, and practice experience into practical education, implementation strategies, and tools.

This may be a regular, full- or part-time position. The starting FTE will be determined upon hire, depending on funding availability. This is a remote position that requires travel within and possibly outside of California based on project needs.

The full salary range for this position: $123,149 to $188,879 per year. The typical hiring range for this position is from $123,149 (minimum) to $156,014 (midpoint), based on 100% FTE. The starting salary is determined using a variety of factors, such as the candidate's knowledge, skills, and experience, as well as internal equity considerations and budget availability.

This position is contingent upon funding being awarded to PHI.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

Clinical Practice Innovation

  • Provide dental clinical expertise to oral health innovation, practice transformation, and implementation initiatives.
  • Identify, assess, and translate emerging clinical practices, technologies, and models of care into educational and implementation strategies.
  • Support adoption and adaptation of evidence-informed innovations across dental and community-based settings.
  • Serve as a clinical subject matter expert for projects, learning laboratories, collaboratives, and technical assistance activities.

Continuing Dental Education

  • Develop and review clinical content for continuing dental education courses, webinars, case-based learning, and other professional learning activities.
  • Translate clinical evidence and innovations into accessible, practice-oriented learning experiences.
  • Collaborate with the Dental Learning & Continuing Education Manager on course development, educational quality, and learner needs.
  • Contribute to evaluation and continuous improvement of clinical education.

Technical Assistance & Practice Transformation

  • Provide technical assistance to dentists and oral health organizations implementing innovative models, technologies, and evidence-informed practices.
  • Support assessment of practice readiness, implementation barriers, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Facilitate peer learning and knowledge exchange among oral health providers.
  • Develop or contribute to clinical tools, practice resources, implementation guides, and other technical assistance products.

Quality Improvement & Knowledge Translation

  • Contribute clinical expertise to CQI initiatives, learning collaboratives, and learning laboratories.
  • Support use of data, evidence, and practice-based learning to improve oral health outcomes and service delivery.
  • Identify lessons from implementation and translate them into education, tools, and recommendations for broader adoption.
  • Promote integration of clinical innovation, workforce learning, and quality improvement.

Collaboration

  • Work collaboratively with oral health professionals, educators, implementation specialists, researchers, workforce partners, and community organizations.
  • Represent the organization in relevant professional and stakeholder forums.
  • Contribute to proposals, reports, presentations, publications, and other products related to oral health innovation and practice transformation.

Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 11 years of relevant experience.
  • Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree.
  • Current dental license appropriate to the jurisdiction of practice.
  • Clinical experience in dentistry, oral health systems, community-based practice, or a related setting.
  • Experience translating clinical knowledge into education, practice improvement, or technical assistance.
  • Strong written and oral communication, facilitation, and collaborative skills.
  • Strong clinical and oral health expertise.
  • Ability to lead practice innovation and transformation.
  • Ability to support the implementation and adoption of evidence-informed practices.
  • Expertise in developing clinical content for continuing professional education.
  • Strong technical assistance and facilitation skills.
  • Excellent cross-sector collaboration skills.

Other Required Qualifications

  • Experience with continuing dental education or professional learning.
  • Experience implementing innovative oral health models, technologies, or delivery approaches.
  • Experience with implementation science or practice transformation.
  • Experience working across clinical, community, academic, or public health settings.
  • Familiarity with adult learning, knowledge translation, or educational quality improvement.
