The Role

The focus of the position is to secure major gifts of $50,000 or more and complete actions and initiatives that identify, cultivate, solicit and steward donors to create and sustain revenue growth. While not exclusively raising support for cancer initiatives, the primary clinical focus of this position is cancer related. The position will interact directly with clinical and administrative leadership in institutes and departments on the development of giving opportunities and partner with senior leaders and all members of the Saint John's Health Center team to develop strategic fundraising priorities and a pipeline of donor prospects. This work includes a systematic approach to the donor cycle.

What You'll Do



  • Responsible for developing and managing a portfolio of major gift prospects and personally soliciting gifts from these individuals as an outright gift or a pledge of $50,000 over a maximum of five years.
  • Participates in events that enable the Foundation to achieve the philanthropic goals identified by the Ministry. This may involve planning and execution on smaller, salon type, events.
  • Provides supervision to a shared philanthropy coordinator resource for all activities around fundraising.
  • Partners with all Philanthropy colleagues, providing support and guidance for various identified philanthropic initiatives.
  • Actively seeks opportunities to create awareness of the ministry's charitable mission and its philanthropic goals.
  • Maintain professional contact with community organizations, institutions, associations, and organizations that affect development programs in healthcare settings.


What You'll Bring

Education & Credentials



  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university or college.
  • Master's Degree (Preferred).
  • Coursework/Training: Completion of fundraising training programs (Preferred).
  • Upon hire: Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE) (Preferred).


Experience & Expertise



  • 8 years of experience in non-profit with major giving experience.
  • Experience raising support for cancer related initiatives (preferred).
  • 3 years of senior-level fundraising experience in a large, complex organization with proven success in closing six-figure gifts.
  • 3 years of experience with a fundraising donor management software program (Raiser's Edge NXT preferred).
  • 3 years of experience in the design of fundraising strategic plans in concert with organizational leadership.
  • Demonstrated experience with prospect management and the use of donor management systems that resulted in developing a major gift prospect pipeline.
  • Experience with health care philanthropy (Preferred).

  • Ability to demonstrate a track record of success in securing major gifts.

The full pay range is listed in accordance with applicable law. Final compensation will be determined based on qualifications, experience, organizational compensation alignment, and the approved hiring department budget for the position. This position may also be eligible for incentive compensation and benefits.

PLEASE ADJUST ACCORDINGLY: At Providence we believe in the importance of human connection and the impact of in-person collaboration towards team cohesion and caregiver engagement. Further, we want our leaders to live in or near the communities we serve. Therefore, leaders applying for this role will be required to work a hybrid schedule, which consists of three days onsite, two days remote and live within a reasonable commuting distance to the ministry or service area they support and lead.

The successful candidate's placement on the wage range for this position will be determined based upon relevant job experience and other applicable factors. These amounts are the base pay range; additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, standby/on-call, overtime, premiums, extra shift incentives, or bonus opportunities.
