Job Summary
The Office of Student Volunteerism ( OSV) at the University of Texas at Dallas empowers students to become lifelong, actively engaged global leaders who seek to understand, advocate, and respond to community issues and needs. We build high-impact volunteer service experiences that offer students the opportunity to learn about their community and contribute their time and talents in the meaningful way.

The Program Coordinator is a part of the Office of Student Volunteerism ( OSV). The position is responsible for managing and operating the Community Garden and Luna Farms. The role delivers educational programming to the UTD community on sustainability, gardening, and the impact of the garden and farm on student wellness and food systems. The Coordinator provides leadership and oversight to student leaders involved in garden, farm, and related programming, while collaborating with students, staff, and faculty to achieve departmental goals.
Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in a related field, with 3-5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Education and Experience

  • Master's degree in higher education, non-profit management, or related field.
  • Three or more years of professional experience in service program development and implementation in a higher education or non-profit setting.
  • Compelling interpersonal skills with a capacity to build positive partnerships and establish credibility with a wide range of constituents, both internal and external.
  • Knowledge of program design, implementation strategies, and evaluation methods.
  • Ability to design and implement service programs that meet student learning outcomes and achieve desired co-curricular goals.
  • Proven ability to work independently and in a highly-collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to supervise student workers, providing regular feedback and professional development.
  • Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and ability to work with students from different backgrounds.
  • Ability to multitask in a high-energy environment, including working on multiple programs simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated reliability and project follow-through.
  • Excellent judgment and diplomacy are required.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Highly motivated and detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Flexibility and willingness to participate in seasonal domestic or potential international travel.
  • Strong interpersonal, influencing, mentoring, and coaching skills.
  • Experience with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong social media networking skills.

Other Qualifications
To the extent this position requires the holder to research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Section 117.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the critical infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired and to continue to be employed in the position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop volunteer projects and programs that educate, connect, and empower UT Dallas students.
  • Assist the director in implementing new programs and campus-wide initiatives.
  • Provide leadership and supervision to student staff responsible for the garden, farm, and related programming.
  • Assist in hiring, training, and management of OSV Student Leaders.
  • Develop, implement, and assess bi-monthly or monthly garden and farm programming, UTD Earth Week, and other garden and farm initiatives.
  • Oversee the Community Garden, including assigning and managing plots, orienting plot holders, managing plots that contribute specifically to the Comet Cupboard, overseeing the budget and ensuring facilities and equipment are well-maintained.
  • Manage the operations and budget of Luna Farms, including year-round gardening and production, and ensuring the facilities and equipment are well-maintained.
  • Collaborate with campus partners to enhance student experiences and outcomes, including serving as the OSV representative for Hunger and Homeless Awareness Week.
  • Network and collaborate with community partners, campus partners, OSV staff, and student leaders.
  • Serve as a Responsible University Official (RUO) for on and off campus service projects, leadership events, and Alternative Breaks.
  • This position works consistent evenings and weekends

Remote Work Notice: After the probationary period, this role may be eligible for a hybrid (partly remote/partly in office) work schedule, subject to business need and manager approval. Must be located within the DFW Area and have the ability to be on campus with 24 hours of notice. A UT Dallas Remote Work Agreement will be required within 14 days after approval.
