Position description

SPINE ORTHOPAEDIC SURGEONS

UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, SAN FRANCISCO

Assistant/Associate/Full Professor Level

The University of California, San Francisco, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery is recruiting for two fellowship-trained orthopaedic spine surgeons. The selected candidate will be appointed to the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor rank of the Health Sciences (HS) Clinical or Clinical X series. The Department seeks to recruit a minimum of one faculty member in each of the following areas of focus:

Spine Oncology and Complex Reconstruction

The successful candidate will have a clinical focus in spine oncology and complex spinal reconstruction, including the evaluation and surgical management of patients with spinal tumors, complex spinal pathology, and reconstructive needs. The candidate will work collaboratively with UCSF's multidisciplinary clinical programs and contribute to the continued development of the Department's complex spine and spine oncology programs.

Minimally Invasive and Outpatient Spine Surgery

The successful candidate will have a clinical focus in minimally invasive spine surgery and outpatient spine care. This position will contribute to the continued development and expansion of spine services across UCSF's clinical footprint throughout the Bay Area, with an emphasis on contemporary minimally invasive techniques, appropriate outpatient surgical care, and accessible regional spine services.

Candidates for both areas will participate in the clinical, educational, and academic missions of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. Successful candidates will provide clinical and surgical care for patients with spinal conditions; participate actively in the education of residents, fellows, and medical students; and contribute to clinical and/or basic research and scholarly activity. Candidates should demonstrate a strong interest in academic medicine, teaching, collaboration, and contributing to the collective advancement and culture of the Spine Division.

Requirements:

Applicant must have all requirements met by time of hire:



  • A valid California medical license will be required as a condition of employment.
  • MD or DO degree from an accredited program.
  • Completed an accredited Orthopaedic Surgery residency program.
  • Completed a Spine Fellowship Program.
  • Board certified or eligible in Orthopaedic Surgery.
  • Training and/expertise in spine tumor surgery or minimally invasive spine surgery are preferred.
  • Applicant's materials must list (pending) qualifications upon submission.


The total compensation for this position ranges from $160,900 - $900,000, depending on individual qualifications, clinical productivity, and other factors assessed at the time of offer.

Total compensation at the University of California, San Francisco includes your base salary, which is determined by your rank and step at appointment, and negotiated pay for Health Sciences Compensation Plan members. Faculty who are members of the Health Sciences Compensation Plan may also be eligible for additional incentive pay.
