About the Role

Advantage Technical is partnering with a respected leader in the commercial and production printing industry to find a versatile Field Service Engineer for a two-year contract-to-hire engagement. This hybrid role supports two technology areas: large format/wide-format printing systems and Indigo digital presses. You'll be the trusted on-site technical expert for customers who rely on this equipment to run their business, with a clear path to a permanent role and the chance to broaden your skills across both platforms.

Job Duties

Digital Press Support

  • Install, maintain, and repair Indigo digital presses in commercial print, packaging, and/or label environments
  • Perform preventive maintenance and consumable replacement, including PIP, blanket, BID, and imaging oil system service
  • Diagnose and resolve issues across the liquid electrophotographic (LEP) process, including imaging, ink delivery, transfer, and paper path/web handling
  • Troubleshoot print quality, color consistency, and registration issues alongside press operators
  • Support digital front end (DFE) and workflow software connectivity

Large Format Support

  • Install, configure, and commission large format printing systems, including latex, UV-curable, aqueous, and dye-sublimation platforms
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance, calibrations, printhead alignment, and service kit replacement to manufacturer specifications
  • Diagnose and repair electrical, mechanical, and ink delivery issues, including printheads, carriage assemblies, curing/drying modules, vacuum systems, encoders, and control boards
  • Support RIP and workflow environments (e.g., Onyx, Caldera, and OEM workflow tools)

Across Both Platforms

  • Train customer operators on daily maintenance, media handling, and best practices
  • Troubleshoot color management, ICC profiling, and media/substrate settings
  • Document service activity, parts usage, and resolutions in the field service management system, and escalate complex issues to technical support teams as needed
  • Prioritize and balance service calls across platforms to minimize customer downtime
  • Participate in on-call or after-hours rotation to support production customers

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of field service experience on digital presses, large format, or production printing equipment
  • Hands-on experience with Indigo digital presses and/or HP Large Format technology (Latex, DesignJet, PageWide XL, or Stitch) strongly preferred; candidates strong on one platform with aptitude to learn the other are encouraged to apply
  • Strong electromechanical troubleshooting skills, including schematics, multimeters, and OEM diagnostic utilities
  • Working knowledge of networking (TCP/IP, Windows OS) and printer/press connectivity
  • Understanding color management principles and substrate profiling
  • Customer-first communication skills and professionalism to represent the brand on site
  • Valid driver's license, clean driving record, and ability to travel regionally (occasional overnight)
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in production/industrial environments

Preferred Qualifications

  • OEM service certifications or completed manufacturer technical training on digital press or large format equipment
  • Experience in label, packaging, or commercial print production environments
  • Background as a technician within a dealer, authorized service provider, or OEM service organization
  • Experience with finishing and converting equipment (cutters, laminators, label finishing lines)
  • Associate's degree or technical certificate in electronics, mechatronics, or a related field

Benefits

  • Long-term stability with a 24-month contract and opportunity for full-time conversion
  • Cross-training opportunities to build expertise on both digital press and large format platforms
  • Paid certification and training classes with major OEM
  • Mileage and cell phone allowances
  • Offerings in Medical, Dental, Vision and 401K
  • PTO
