Summary:

To provide strong Middle Management in the daily operations of the Plant Engineering Department. Manages day to day activities related to plant operations, to provide technical expertise in the area of skilled trades and the ability to assist employees/managers in identifying improvements. To direct, manage and measure the daily activities of the Plant Engineering Staff. The Engineering Operations Manager must be able to manage multiple responsibilities and provide support to the Director of Plant Engineering. This position coordinates the management of safety requirements, equipment maintenance, contracts and coordination with vendors and service personnel. To insure the Plant Engineering Department utilizes the Computerized Maintenance Management System to perform scheduled Preventive Maintenance, all code compliant inspections and insure documentation and record keeping is complete and up to date.

Responsibilities:

1) Under the direction of the Director of Engineering, manage the day-to-day operation of the Maintenance Department.

a. Assign and direct the daily assignments of the maintenance department personnel.

b. Manage and coordinate contract service vendors.

c. Ensures assigned areas are maintained in a safe, clean, presentable manner.

d. Coordinates with the Director of Engineering for overall support by the Plant Engineering Department and in the absence of the Director, assume management responsibility of the department..

2) Assist the Director in maintaining safety compliance with regard to Local, State and Federal regulations, safety guidelines and requirements.

3) Analyzes and resolves quality and customer services issues.

a. Identify trends

b. Recommends improvements

4) Assist with development and preparation of facilities operational budget and capital equipment replacement budget.

5) Serves as member of the Patient Safety Committee and represents Director and Department at designated Committee meetings when required.

6) Provide input and data to assist in the development of Departmental reports and Dashboards.

a. Dashboards developed should include key indicators such as Work Order productivity, Life Safety Code compliance and required monitoring of Critical Care areas.

b. Assist with the identification and explanation for budget variances when necessary.

7) Direct quality improvement activities related to Contract Services.

a. Sprinkler and Fire Inspections. Insure completeness and repair follow-up when required.

b. Monitor all HVAC, UPS, Chemical Treatment, Building Automation System and related contract services. Insure documentation is complete and accurate.

c. Communicate regularly with organizational leaders regarding best practices, policies, and opportunities

8) Create and maintain a customer-focused work environment that attracts and retains high caliber team members.

a. Coach and mentor staff to foster engagement and superior performance

b. Monitor and evaluate performance to ensure accountability

c. Readily provide feedback to reinforce positive behaviors and to address those that could be detrimental to the department, organization, or staff member him/herself

Other information:

* Education - College, two or four year degree, or equivalent experience.. Training, Trade Certifications and Hospital experience is desirable.

* Experience - At least 5 years in a position involving management of maintenance personnel in a healthcare environment. This position requires knowledge of Preventive and Corrective Maintenance, CMMS, Life Safety Code, State and Federal Regulations.

* Other Skills/Qualifications - Experience with Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing Maintenance and Operation. Microsoft Office proficiency including Excel is required.
