Description
Responsible for placing safety as #1 priority in day to day work routine for self and others. Responsible for the analysis and reporting of financial transactions and statistics for MDU Resources Group, Inc., its utility divisions, and subsidiaries. Provide accounting and analytical support in the verification, control and processing of work activities in respective area. Conducts the development and implementation of accounting procedures and systems to assure proper and effective financial reporting and compliance, and provide research and accounting assistance to others. Prepares monthly, quarterly, annual and periodic financial statements, analyses, reports and data requests for management, internal departments and external entities. Completes the day-to-day activities, calculations, reconciliations and analyses necessary to perform periodic financial accounting closes. Coordinates or leads the preparation and administration of the annual capital and O&M budgets, the Operating Plan and the five-year Financial Forecast. Recommends enhancements to accounting policies, procedures and information systems. Assists with compliance to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) and to the FERC Chart of Accounts. Additional to the above, Financial Analyst IV: Coordinate the analysis and reporting of financial transactions and statistics for MDU Resources Group, Inc. and its subsidiaries. Work on more complex aspects of financial and/or accounting activities. Leads the preparation of monthly, quarterly, annual and periodic financial statements, analyses, reports and data requests for management, internal departments and external entities. Leads the day-to-day activities, calculations, reconciliations and analyses necessary to perform periodic financial accounting closes. Coordinate the development and implementation of accounting procedures and systems to assure proper and effective financial reporting and compliance, and provide research and accounting assistance to others. Applies financial analysis, communications and marketing skills in support of investor relations programs and projects. Serve as primary contact for retail and institutional shareholders, analysts, and third-party administrators.

| MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS |
Financial Analyst I ($57,110 - $ 71,390):
- Must possess a working knowledge of accounting fundamentals and principles at a level normally acquired through the completion of a four-year degree in accounting, finance or related field.
Financial Analyst II ($63,860 - $79,830):
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field; and
- Two years' related accounting/finance experience.
Financial Analyst III ($73,460 - $91,830):
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field; and
- Four years' related accounting experience, with a minimum of two years' experience in financial analysis.
Financial Analyst IV ($84,460 - $105,570):
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field; and
- Six years' experience in financial analysis and evaluation techniques.

| JOB RESPONSIBILTIES |
- Complete the day-to-day activities, calculations, reconciliations and analyses necessary to perform periodic financial accounting closes. Assist in the coordination, preparation and administration of the annual capital and O & M budgets, the Operating Plan and the five-year Financial Forecast. Recommend enhancements to accounting policies, procedures and information systems. Assist with compliance to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) and to the FERC Chart of Accounts.
- For multiple business segments, jurisdictions and companies: accumulates, calculates, and records monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting estimates and amortizations to ensure proper accounting and allocation.
- Prepares stand-alone, consolidated and combined monthly internal statements and financial reports and responds to data requests from internal and external entities, ensuring that final product includes concise and accurate explanations of variances and changes and appropriate supporting documents.
- Designs, completes and maintains spreadsheets and databases necessary for assigned duties. Assists in the maintenance, enhancement and implementation of accounting and financial application software.
- Assists in compliance with GAAP, SOX and FERC, calculation, accumulation and reporting of financial data relating to new or existing FASBs or other accounting pronouncements.
- Assists in the coordination, preparation and administration of the annual capital and operating and maintenance budgets, the operating plan and the five-year financial forecast.
- Performs other tasks and special projects as assigned.
