Job Summary

The Student Services Specialist Sr. performs advanced, technically complex program support and administrative tasks within Academic Advising and Transfer Services. This role plays a vital part in driving student success, retention, and degree progression through holistic advising, targeted outreach, and cross-functional collaboration. In addition to direct student support, this position coordinates office workflow, chat coverage, leads group advising, new student orientations (Bear Tracks Embark), family college orientation initiatives, and provides guidance and training to department staff.

Essential Functions

35% - Advises students by appointment, drop-in, electronically, and over the phone, or as elevated by other student services staff. Identifies resources needed to address students' circumstances and potential barriers. Researches and assists in analyzing and interpreting guidelines and regulations specifically around program/degree requirements.

30% - Coordinates projects, events, and activities related to academic advising, orientation, and enrollment management. Coordinates workflow and the implementation of academic advising policies and procedures. Performs more technically complex and difficult student advising and processing.

25% - Prepares reports and maintains records, and tracks students' performance and progress. May evaluate admissions data such as transcripts and transfer credit. Coordinates and maintains database information and reporting systems. Provides training or orientation to other staff, as assigned.

10% - Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution and two (2) years of student services experience or college teaching experience or experience assisting with educational program development and coordination, student advisement, financial aid or related student development programs.

An equivalent combination of the conferred degree and directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered.

Desired Qualifications

1.Bachelor's degree in Education, and/or liberal arts or sciences discipline.
2.(3) three years of experience working in a student services environment, providing support to Academic Advising Unit in a community college or university and/or teaching experience in a college or university setting.
3. Experience using online student databases systems (i.e., SIS, Salesforce, PeopleSoft, Banner)
4.Demonstrated Experience with identifying/referring students to resources needed to address students' circumstances and potential barriers.
5.(2) two years of experience Coordinating projects, events, and activities related to academic advising, orientation, and/or enrollment management.
6.One (1) year of full-time, relevant MCCCD experience within the previous two (2) years.

Special Working Conditions

*  MCCCD does not sponsor individuals for any type of work visa.       
*  May be required to work evenings and weekends, May require prolonged periods of viewing a computer screen and using a keyboard.
*  Travel to campus during interview/selection process will be at candidate's own expense.

Positions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, walking, lifting, typing, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Light Work:  Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects including the human body.

Working Conditions: Work is routinely performed in an indoor, office environment.
