Phlebotomist II

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-4:30 PM

The Phlebotomist II assists with various laboratory duties, troubleshooting, training, and workflow improvement recommendations. The role focuses on specimen collection, processing, labeling, and handling in accordance with established procedures.

• Perform blood draws using straight and butterfly needles.
• Collect and store blood and other specimens, including urine and fecal samples, according to established procedures.
• Explain venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures clearly and courteously to patients.
• Match laboratory requisition forms with specimen tubes and verify test orders for accuracy.
• Label, centrifuge, split, freeze, and package specimens as required by test orders.
• Update patient information and maintain accurate specimen records.
• Ensure specimens are stored at the required temperatures and placed in appropriate collection containers for transport.
• Follow established protocols to maintain specimen integrity.
• Record maintenance data and perform equipment decontamination as required.
• Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
• Attend annual departmental training sessions.
• Answer telephone inquiries and communicate laboratory results as permitted by established procedures.
• Assist with troubleshooting and recommend workflow improvements.

• High school diploma or GED.
• Minimum of 6 months of venipuncture experience in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting.
• Valid state phlebotomy certification, where required.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
