Description
South Florida is ground zero for climate change, where rising seas, record heat and extreme storms are reshaping daily life. The Miami Herald is offering a six-month reporting fellowship focused on the region's most urgent climate challenges - and the people, ideas and solutions shaping its future. As our multimedia climate reporter, you'll drive daily coverage, break news and deliver exclusive enterprise stories that connect the science and policy of climate change to the lived experience of South Floridians. You'll use digital tools and audience data to spot trends, test new formats and engage readers where they are - from social platforms to newsletters and beyond. AI and automation will help you spend less time on routine tasks and more time on reporting, sources and storytelling that matters. You'll work closely with editors and fellow reporters, pitching and producing original stories, recaps and multiformat versions that meet newsroom goals for audience growth and retention. Your reporting will focus on solutions and actionable information, helping readers understand not just the threat but what they can do about it. What you'll do:
This is a six-month, grant-funded position. We welcome candidates with at least 1-3 years of newsroom experience, a strong grounding in journalism ethics and a passion for digital-first, audience-focused reporting. Fluency in video, photo and social media storytelling is a plus. To apply, submit a cover letter, resume and 4-6 samples of their work. The Miami Herald and McClatchy are committed to building a newsroom that reflects and serves all of South Florida. Join us at the forefront of digital journalism, where every audience matters and every signal counts. #LI-RB1 Equal Opportunity Employer
