Summary

An international accounting, tax, and business advisory firm is hiring a bilingual Tax Specialist for its remote team. The firm is growing steadily and serves Japanese-affiliated companies in the U.S. This is a new, added position on a tax team of two. You will prepare and file federal, state, and local tax returns and do tax planning for a wide range of clients, from publicly listed Japanese corporations to small and mid-sized businesses. You will also represent clients during audits, research tax law, and advise clients and team members on tax matters.

Most of the work is U.S. tax for Japanese companies. You will also work with the firm's global offices and international clients, which gives you exposure to international tax, including Japanese tax. The firm values long-term careers. Pay has grown with company performance, and several employees now earn well above the starting range. The role is fully remote with a flexible schedule, so it works well for people outside major cities and for parents.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Collect and review clients' financial records, income statements, and expenses, and find tax reduction strategies that lower their tax liability.
  • Prepare, review, and file accurate federal, state, and local tax returns for corporate and individual clients.
  • Review work papers and tax returns prepared by team members, including technically complex returns.
  • Prepare federal and state estimated tax payments, state apportionment calculations, and tax extensions.
  • Make sure clients comply with IRS regulations and meet their federal and state tax obligations.
  • Join client meetings to answer questions, review returns, research tax issues, and contribute to tax planning.
  • Represent clients before the IRS and state and local tax agencies as needed.
  • Provide ongoing tax support and respond to notices clients receive from federal, state, and local governments.
  • Work with the firm's global offices and clients on international and cross-border tax matters.
  • Manage the firm's tax software and oversee the rollout of new features and updates.
  • Keep up with changes in tax law and teach team members about relevant tax topics.

Qualifications

Required

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without employer sponsorship, now or in the future. Visa sponsorship and transfers are not available.
  • CPA license or Enrolled Agent (EA) credential.
  • Native-level fluency in Japanese, plus strong professional English.
  • 3-5 years of experience preparing corporate and individual income tax returns for clients.
  • Experience working at a consulting or accounting firm.
  • Strong knowledge of tax and accounting laws and procedures, especially tax compliance, tax accounting, and consulting.
  • Strong technical skills in corporate and individual tax planning and compliance, tax accounting, and financial reporting, including tax provision preparation, audit, and review.
  • Bachelor's degree in Taxation or Accounting, or equivalent experience.
  • Able to work independently and productively in a fully remote setting.
