Department: Industrial Engineering and Management Sciences

The Department of Industrial Engineering and Management Sciences at Northwestern University (https://www.mccormick.northwestern.edu/industrial/) invites applications for the position of non-tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor of Instruction in Industrial Engineering. The primary duties involve teaching and advising in statistics, operations research, stochastic processes, and optimization, alongside serving as the Assistant Director of Undergraduate Studies by contributing vital departmental service, including undergraduate program administration and student advising leadership. Successful candidates will have demonstrable interest in working with undergraduate engineering students.

The Department seeks outstanding candidates who have received a Ph.D. degree in industrial engineering, operations research, statistics, or other IE-related discipline, or who expect to do so by August 2027, and who aspire to engage in independent and interdisciplinary teaching. The starting date is September 1, 2027. The application package should include a cover letter, curriculum vita, statement of teaching experience and philosophy, statement of research accomplishments and interests, and a link to a video of a short teaching demonstration (provided in the cover letter). Please visit the IEMS website to find out more information about this position and to apply.

In addition, the applicant should arrange for at least two, but no more than three letters of recommendation addressing both research and teaching qualifications. Recommendation letters will be automatically solicited from the letter writers by email after the names are entered in the online application system.

Compensation

The expected base pay range for this position $95,000 - $115,000 for a 9-month academic appointment and is subject to negotiation. Sponsorship for an H-1B visa may be available for qualified candidates, subject to institutional policies and applicable immigration regulations.

Northwestern University has provided a pay range representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for the position. The pay offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors including (but not limited to) the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate, including years since terminal degree, training, and field or discipline; departmental budget availability; internal comparators; and external market pay for comparable jobs.
