San Francisco Office - Summer Associate (Transactions: IP/Privacy)

Winston & Strawn LLP
United States, California, San Francisco
101 California Street (Show on map)
Nov 01, 2026

We are currently accepting applications from first-year law students (Class of 2029) interested in Transactions for our Summer Associate Program. Please submit only one application to your preferred office and department. Duplicate applications for multiple offices or multiple departments will not be accepted.

Early application is not necessary to be considered. If you apply before you receive your first semester law school grades, we will reach out in early January with a link to update your application.

Please see the opportunities below. You must select the specific position(s) you are interested in as part of your application. You may choose to be considered for a joint 1L & 2L summer associate position, a 2L summer associate position exclusively, or both. For our San Francisco office, if you select "both," we will first consider you for the joint 1L & 2L position. If you are not selected for that role, we will then consider you for the 2L-only position.

1L & 2L Summer Associate (joint position)
This is for both a 1L (Summer 2027) and a 2L (Summer 2028) position. Full participation in both programs is required for this specific application. Candidates who accept an offer will be eligible for a bonus for committing to both summer programs. Limited spots are available. Interviews for the joint position will be conducted on a rolling basis. In most cases, offers will not be extended until a first semester law school transcript is received.

2L Summer Associate
This is for a 2L position only in our 2028 Summer Program. Interviews for 2L summer will be conducted on a rolling basis beginning in January 2027.

If you have received or are in the process of obtaining an MBA degree, the firm awards a bonus for an MBA degree.

To apply, please submit your:

* Resume
* Undergraduate transcript (unofficial copy will be accepted)
* Law school transcript (submission will be required once grades have been released)
* Cover letter (it is recommended to comment on your department interest and share your reason(s) for choosing this office location)

Due to the high volume of resumes we receive; we are unable to provide updates on the status of individual applications. A member of the recruiting team will contact you directly if there is an interest in moving forward with your application or if additional information is needed.

We are an equal opportunity employer and welcome applicants from all backgrounds and experiences.

The 2027 summer associate salary will be based on a pro-rated calculation of entry-level associate compensation, which is expected to be $235,000.
