Responsibilities Include:



  • Leads research, development, demonstration and deployment of assured, robust, and secure wireless communications for critical national needs.
  • Analyzes advanced cellular systems such as 5G and beyond, to identify the new security threats introduced along with the new capabilities.
  • Identifies security & resiliency vulnerabilities on existing platforms essential to the modernization of critical infrastructure assets. Leverages new concepts or novel approaches to solve wireless security challenges on a national scale.
  • Generates new ideas for research and authors papers related to innovative wireless security concepts.
  • Participates in project teams to produce proposals for new work including joint projects with industry.
  • Represents the INL at external events via participation in working groups, speaking engagements and scientific presentations in large public forums.
  • Active participant at various wireless security events. Leads peer review work within the organization.
  • Independently identifies new funded work opportunities, partners with other in INL to respond successfully to those opportunities.


Minimum Requirements:



  • Level 4: Master's and 6 years, or PhD and 4yrs. Degree must be in Telecommunications or Computer Engineering discipline
  • Level 5: Master's and 8 years, or Ph.D. and 6 years experience. Degree must be in Telecommunications or Computer Engineering discipline
  • Qualified candidates must possess strong technical expertise in areas related to wireless communications
  • Experience in embedded wireless devices and systems. Strong programming skills in languages including Python, Java, C, C++, and assembly level language
  • Strong understanding of Operating Systems including Linux. Experience or familiarity with Software Defined Radio (SDR) and GNU Radio is desirable. Established skills in multiple methods of communication (e.g., oral, written, etc.,) for staff, management, and clients.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain DOE Q-clearance and SCI access, and willingness to complete US Government polygraph upon request. Capable of effectively working in secured areas, handling and storing and processing classified information, using combination locks, extensive range of passwords and combinations, and various biometric devices.
