Another Source's client, Stanford University, is recruiting a Senior Safety and Resiliency Specialist to join their Department of Environmental Health and Safety as part of Stanford's Land, Buildings & Real Estate (LBRE) team on Stanford's Main Campus in Palo Alto, California. This is a hybrid opportunity where you will get the chance to work 2 days at home every week and 3 days on-campus. Come join a small, but mighty team!

About the role:

Under minimal supervision, the Senior Safety and Resiliency Specialist performs complex technical work in a wide range of environmental, health, and safety disciplines to ensure a safe work environment and achieve compliance with governmental, Stanford University, and LBRE's environmental, health, and safety standards and regulations. This individual develops, implements, and participates in safety, health, emergency response, and resilience programs, working closely with key stakeholders at LBRE and Campus.

Primary Responsibilities:

    Work under consultative or self-initiated direction to develop, implement, and maintain programs, systems, and procedures necessary to ensure the overall safety and health of LBRE employees and the community.
  • Act as a lead or technical expert, providing functional direction and developing/delivering training in the general application of health and safety programs.
  • Conduct comprehensive, independent compliance assurance reviews of environmental, health, and safety policies and procedures; prepares accompanying management reports, documentation, and evaluations.
  • Participate in developing, implementing, and managing hazard identification and correction programs such as the Job Safety Analysis, Pre-Task Planning, job briefings, and complex jobs requiring multi-party involvement.
  • Perform field observations to ensure compliance with Cal/OSHA and LBRE Safety programs.
  • Maintain communication with the LBRE Safety Director and operational groups to resolve technical problems and bring issues to the department's attention.
  • Develop and implement LBRE's emergency preparedness and response programs and capabilities by the SU-emergency preparedness program.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, injuries, and complaints concerning emergencies, potential hazards, or unsafe conditions in the workplace.
  • Coordinate emergency incident action reports and lessons learned.
  • Develop and maintain resilience design guidelines.
  • Oversee the hazardous waste and chemical storage and inventory for LBRE as assigned.
  • May lead a team responsible for developing and implementing environmental, emergency response, resilience, and/or safety programs.

To Be Successful in this Role You Must Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in science/art in related allied/scientific field and proven experience in occupational safety and health, emergency response/management, risk management, and/or allied/scientific/engineering field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • The desired candidate will have 7 - 10 years demonstrated knowledge and experience with various areas such as electrical safety, confined spaces, fall protection, hazard communications, and control of hazardous energy.
  • Ability to develop written programs, training material, and other safety informational material with reliability and sustainability.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver training programs based on adult learning principles.
  • Ability to research, reference, learn, interpret specific government agency requirements (statutes, regulations, licenses, and permits), industry standards, and university policies.
  • Working knowledge and experience with the Incident Command System of emergency management.
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with both labor and management; ability to explain technical concepts clearly and concisely.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct effective health and safety surveys, quantitative and qualitative exposure/ risk assessments, and complex data analyses; ability to provide recommendations for exposure/risk control.
  • Working knowledge of the scientific and technical aspects of various regulatory and industry requirements and potential impact on assigned work area(s).
  • Demonstrated coaching ability.
  • Must have a genuine concern for people.
  • Certified Safety Professional or Professional Engineer strongly preferred.
