The Opportunity (This is a fully remote opportunity)

The VP - Product Originations, Affordable Housing will manage deal activity with Berkadia's production network and ensure that our interactions with applicable lending agencies are coordinated, consistent and of the highest possible integrity and quality. Affordable Housing plays a critical role at Berkadia supporting multi-billion-dollar lending platforms. The VP Product Orignations, Affordable Housing will help analyze proposed transactions, prepare formal recommendations, and assist in the closing and delivery of approved loans to necessary constituents. The role requires the specific knowledge of current GSE housing debt products, and the ability to actively apply that knowledge in the execution of assigned responsibilities. This includes analyzing proposed transactions, prepare formal recommendations, review of preliminary quotes, , application issuance and GSE program compliance. The ideal candidate will develop and grow a healthy pipeline of high-quality loan transactions, sourced through Berkadia's internal production network.



  • Act as a Berkadia subject matter expert and product specialist on affordable loan products.
  • Educate Berkadia's production network on GSE requirements and loan products available to support this sector.
  • Work collaboratively with the production network to market the various loan products to their borrower clients.
  • Provide initial review of deal opportunities and provide recommendations on best course of action and product execution.
  • Act as a deal liaison and assist in the negotiation and structuring of loan transactions; negotiate deal terms and any needed waivers with lending agencies, as applicable.
  • Manage the process to ensure high-quality deal flow, through to the point of loan application and hand-off to underwriting.
  • Coordinate with analysts, processors, underwriters, and closers to provide efficient and streamlined processing of transactions, through end delivery to the applicable lending agency.
  • Provide GSE housing program training and mentoring internally to analysts, GPO and other team members as needed.
  • Remain current on GSE housing programs, policies, and legislation, including participation in regular training with Freddie Mac, Fannie Mae and other housing funding providers.
  • Participate in process improvements and technological initiatives that facilitate smooth deal execution, as needed.
  • Travel required as needed, 10-20%
  • Other duties as assigned.


What you will need to be successful



  • Detailed knowledge of deal structures and capital stacks specific to loan transactions.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Proficient in financial analysis and risk mitigation.
  • Ability to work with tight deadlines in a team environment.
  • Ability to multitask, manage a pipeline of business, and stay organized.
  • Possess a strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
  • Seven to ten years prior experience in a similar position.

  • Exceptional credit sense, judgment and decision-making skills, with demonstrable technical skills in underwriting, structuring, and closing complex multifamily deals.
  • Requires an independent worker with strong project management skills, excellent accuracy and attention to details, and an ability to adjust to industry changes.
  • Ability to travel for internal meetings, GSE training, industry and company conferences, training of analysts as required.
