Position Summary:

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Program Manager, Strategic Initiatives.

The Research Program Manager Strategic Initiatives is responsible for the management and communication of initiatives that are of high strategic importance to the growth of the research enterprise of NYU Langone Hospital. Reporting to the Director, Research Strategy and Program Development, and working closely with the Office of Science and Research (OSR) leadership team within the Research arm of NYULH, this individual will drive multiple, high visibility initiatives. These strategic initiatives include, for example, crossdepartmental research program development, analyses related to research faculty productivity or grant submissions/awards, and research mission efficiency improvements.

The role requires expertise in project management, experience in market and data analysis, ability to coordinate multiple projects and exceptional skills in the visual presentation of complex scientific concepts and analytic findings.

Job Responsibilities:

Program Management

  • Develop the scope and associated deliverables for projects, creating plans, deliverables and timelines, and assessing progress
  • Responsible for communicating progress and status of the initiatives in a clear and meaningful way to a diverse audience, including faculty and senior leadership
  • Identify and address potential bottlenecks, problem-solving, and escalating complex issues or concerns as appropriate
  • Provide support for programmatic development, working closely with faculty directors and program coordinators / managers
  • Market and Data Analysis

  • Manage time-sensitive analytics-driven projects for strategic initiatives focused on accelerating the growth of NIH awards, working with multidisciplinary groups of stakeholders, both internal to OSR and cross-departmentally
  • Conceive, design and deliver analyses leveraging market, financial and performance data to answer questions of strategic importance to support growth and efficiency of the Research Mission
  • Conduct original research on trends in the external health and science environment, compiling market assessments, and developing business plans
  • Anticipate and address questions related to the analyses, acting as a subject matter expert with OSR and other constituents
  • Integrate data and market analyses into compelling conclusions and recommendations
  • Visual Presentation and Communication

  • Develop effective presentations that clearly convey the story that emerges from the data and analyses, integrating findings from the market and data analysis they conduct, as well as that conducted by colleagues, into visually clear and compelling displays
  • Conceive, design, and deliver elegant visualizations and presentations on a variety of topics related to the research enterprise, incorporating metrics to support conclusions and explain recommendations
  • Act as an OSR-resource in the development of scientific and business presentations, infographics, charts, graphics and other data visualizations, leveraging software and tools such as Tableau and PowerPoint
  • Work one-on-one with researchers in the coordination and visualization of their weekly presentations to the leadership team to help convey complex scientific concepts into layman's terms.
  • Minimum Qualifications:

    To qualify you must have a

    1. Bachelors Degree with a minimum of 3 years progressive experience in an academic
    medical center, higher education or relevant consulting environment.
    2. Outstanding analytic, critical thinking skills and problem-solving skills, with ability to
    frame, conduct and translate data analysis into actionable recommendations.
    3. Expertise in MS Excel, Access, Tableau and other data analytic tools required.
    4. Strong presentation development and data visualization skills, supported by expertise in
    the use of Excel, PowerPoint, Tableau, and other data analysis, graphics and
    presentation development tools.
    5. Attention to detail is critical, as is the ability to move easily from the details to the big
    picture and back. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    6. Ability to manage multiple

    Preferred Qualifications:
    Masters degree with 5+ years progressive experience in an academic medical center, higher
    education or relevant consulting environment.

    Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
