Instructional Designer

The Office of Instructional Support seeks an Instructional Designer to provide overall expertise, guidance, and practical solutions to teaching faculty on online, hybrid, or web-enhanced course development and delivery. They lead conversations on best practices, provide a systematic approach to incorporating learning theories into practical course design, and function as project managers for the course development process.

Instructional Consultations and Course Development (60%)
* Design and develop online and hybrid courses in consultation with faculty and subject matter experts
* Build courses in the Blackboard learning management system, including self-paced courses for online programs and other university needs (credential programs, faculty, student initiatives, training courses, etc.)

* Consult and collaborate with instructional and academic technology staff in the creation of instructional videos and media content using various authoring/production tools (Camtasia, Kaltura, etc.)
* Manage course production projects from inception through delivery while meeting course design deadlines
* Review course quality using agreed-upon course design quality standards and make revisions as needed
* Monitor, review, and carry out ongoing troubleshooting of course sites in the learning management system (e.g., typos, broken links, formatting, and display issues)
* Maintain and update tasks and project status reports
* Recommend policies and procedures that improve the course development and revision process
* Conduct course and program assessments and gather feedback from stakeholders to continually update and improve course design and content
* Maintain a high regard for student privacy in accordance with FERPA policies and procedures

Training and Faculty Support (40%)
* Design and facilitate faculty development workshops about research-based instructional design, online and hybrid learning, and instructional technology
* In collaboration with Instructional Technology Specialist, support faculty in overcoming barriers to using technology to enhance teaching and learning across all academic programs
* Support faculty transitioning to hybrid/blended/flipped and fully online courses
* Develop student-centered resources for faculty inclusion in courses to support student learning experiences
* Effectively and efficiently respond to and support faculty requests via ServiceNow ticketing system
* Participate in virtual office hours to provide drop-in faculty support

* Bachelor's degree in instructional design, educational technology, or similar
* Minimum of 2 years of experience in the design, development, and revision of student-centered learning experiences in higher education or corporate environment.
* Demonstrated creativity, skill, and experience in instructional design and online course production. (Portfolios encouraged)
* Advanced experience with Blackboard or similar Learning Management System.
* Experience with various content development tools (i.e., Articulate Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, Captivate, iSpring, and Camtasia), as well as advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office.
* Solid interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with people of all levels of expertise and technical comfort in varied organizational relationships.
* Ability to manage multiple priorities and successfully complete tasks according to established deadlines
* Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.

Preferred:
* Master's degree in instructional design or educational technology preferred
* Familiarity with Universal Design for Learning principles and a strong commitment to incorporating effective practices for ADA, Section 508, and WCAG 2.0 compliance in online and hybrid courses
* Project management skills, including gaining buy-in, organizing resources, and keeping deadlines intact
