What does a great Systems Software Development Engineer II do?

As a Mainframe Systems Developer Engineer, you will work with other Systems Development Engineers, zTPF Database Engineers, Applications Programmers, and Support teams performing daily activities ranging in complexity. You will be responsible for the configuration, maintenance, development, and reliable operation of our z/TPF environments.

You will own and drive work efforts through all stages of the development, quality, and implementation life cycle. The successful candidate will be a self-motivated, talented, technical, proactive person who embraces team culture, challenges, problem solving, and has a proven track record of delivering.

Responsibilities include:



  • Develop, enhance, and maintain the z/TPF operating system and database functions, including supporting software and utilities to meet Travelport's business requirements
  • Develop new functionality, integrate IBM APARs, maintain proprietary operating system modifications, utilities and zTPF database management
  • Generate and implement enhancements to improve overall system design and/or streamline delivery of product. Proactively identify opportunities to improve delivery of daily work
  • Manage and support tools for z/TPF database management and performance including Recoup, PDU, pool functionality, zTPFDF and traditional Databases
  • Infrastructure resource allocation and capacity data collection and reporting.
  • Provide operational and production support for Travelport z/TPF Systems and Database. Provide 24x7 on-call availability and support on a rotating basis with other team members


Who we are looking for in this role:



  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or Information Systems or any equivalent combination of experience, education, and/or training in the TPF application development field.
  • Strong z/TPF assembler and C/C++ programming languages
  • Ability to navigate adjacent systems such as z/VM, z/Linux, and z/OS
  • Working knowledge of z/TPF development and testing tools, such as zTPFGI, IBM Toolkit, CP trace, z/Linux, maketpf, VPARS
  • Excellent analytical, technology, communication, decision making and problem-solving skills
  • Organized with an ability to prioritize workload, meet deadlines, and utilize time effectively

Salary Target: $120,000.00 - $130,000.00

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.
