Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as an Institute for Excellence in Health Equity (IEHE) Executive Director.

In this role, the successful candidate will assume overall administrative and financial responsibility for the Institute in collaboration with the Institute Director and leadership. Participates as a member of the IEHE executive committee and in doing so will help to manage the strategy and operations for mission execution, faculty recruitment, staff development, and program management /expansion. Supervises and develops staff and all aspects of the institute programs, including training programs. In conjunction with the Institute Director, establishes short and long term goals that integrates with the goals of the overall institution. Develops and implements policies and procedures to ensure compliance with NYULH policies and accrediting bodies in all areas of responsibility. Other essential responsibilities include onboarding and life cycle management for faculty, financial planning and reporting, consolidated budget oversight, sponsored projects management, institute space management and other duties. The Administrator plays a key role in the operation of the Institute in the advancement of equity and excellence by fostering inter-disciplinary and interdepartmental collaborations. Works closely and cooperatively with the institute Director to coordinate programmatic initiatives, research, educational and fundraising efforts. Provides oversight and management of overall operations, communication and policy within the Institute.

Job Responsibilities:




    • General Responsibilities: In conjunction with the Institute Director and Executive Leadership, establishes annual and long-term goals for the institute and aligns them with the missions of the institution. Develops operational strategies, plans and programs to optimize clinical, research, education, operational performance as it relates to the mission of the Institute. Manages the financial performance of all divisions and programs within the Institute including budget preparation, development of business plans for recruitment and program growth, management of expenses and revenue and performance vs budget and implement adjustments needed to align with budget. Works closely with members of the health system community to ensure that financial management related to Institute efforts are integrated and coordinated. Monitors all budgets regularly and reports on the financial performance of each pillar throughout year. Prepares variance reports outlining any deviation from the approved budget. Determines changes necessary to address resolution of variances. Oversees the development of business plans for all programs in the institute, including planning, analysis, marketing, and implementation. Provides administrative support to the Director, Co-Director, Program Directors, and Pillar Leads on developing and monitoring metrics for success across all programs in the institute. Analyzes data and makes recommendations to the Director. Develops strategies to ensure optimization of funding and financial support for programs and initiatives in the institute professional activities. Works with the Institute Director to develop a multiyear fundraising strategy setting targets Oversees the preparation of capital and all sources of funding including the operating budgets. Works with the director, co-director, and pillar leads in establishing and managing the goals and metrics in particular capturing and developing starting points and data attributes relevant to IEHE indicators of success. Oversees all aspects of the management of the Institute staff by ensuring operations are efficient and staff are optimally utilized. Provides administrative oversight of all aspects of the programs within the institute, in conjunction with EFAA, Sackler, the Postdoc office. Provides support to the Institute Director in the local assignment of space and facilities planning for Institute. Oversees the negotiation of capital needs and ensures appropriate level of analysis, projections and financial documentation is provided. Oversees the development and implementation of policies and procedures for the Institute. Ensures compliance in all areas of responsibility. Provides administrative and financial management support to the Institute Director and leadership in the recruitment of new faculty including preparation of RAP package for consideration of research faculty. Works with the Office of Development to follow up on administrative steps needed to secure funding opportunities to advance the institutes mission Collaborates with the Office of Communications and Marketing on initiatives to ensure that the NYU Langone Health community, as well as communities external to NYU, are informed of the Institute's academic services and advancements. Advises and facilitates the IEHE Directors internal and external communication plan to relevant audiences and stakeholders. Supports the Institute in coordinating the management of government affairs and legal matters with the central office responsible for those services. Assists with the establishment, framework, and administration of the IEHE Internal Advisory Council and serve as secretary of said council. Facilitates the cross-mission, cross-system engagement of department leadership and core faculty appointees. Processes required appointment and CORs for internal IEHE core faculty.
    • Clinical Pillar Structure Provides administrative support as leaders of the Institute partners with clinical operational leadership to identify system wide opportunities and goals as it relates to health equity, inclusion, and mentorship. Provides guidance to clinical leadership and the Institute Director, MCIT and Decision Support related to the creation and maintenance of dashboard metrics development and maintenance. Facilitates IEHE initiative to enhance EHR (Epic) data capture mechanism as it relates to health equity.
    • Medical Education Pillar Structure Assists the Institute Director and partners, including GME, to initiate assessment and recommendations for the residency training curriculum as it relates to health equity. Supports the development and administrative requirements to ensure the success of medical student placement in URiM labs. Supports the effective setup the recruitment mentorship program for URiM residents and fellows.
    • Research Pillar Provides oversight and administrative direction for all grant management activity and research compliance within the institute. Oversees the management of funding provided under grants and contracts assigned to the institute. Oversees compliance with all funding agencies and the IRB by ensuring that information required is maintained and reported on a regular basis. Identifies and analyzes any discrepancies in order to ensure appropriate justifications are provided. Assists the director, co-director, and IEHE recruits with grant application strategy and submissions; facilitates and assists with all grant submissions related to IEHE faculty. Provides oversight to ensure the full transfer, setup, and placement of all sponsored research and lab/program infrastructure for IEHE recruits. Oversees the development of focus groups and individual interviews with stakeholders across the entire network to identify critical gaps in health equity. Assists the Institute Director with the conceptual and practical structure of a postdoc pipeline and other research mentorship programs.


Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Master's Degree in Business, Health Administration or related field with a minimum of 7 years of leadership experience in an academic institute, basic science and/or clinical department administration; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Professional and/or graduate academic work in organizational psychology geared towards health equity (or similar program) is preferred. Strong financial management experience and managing staff is required. Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills required.
