Job Description

The SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework for Enterprises) Portfolio Manager is a global leadership role responsible for the development planning of the Low Voltage Drives and Medium Voltage Business portfolios, accessories, and options. Key leadership responsibilities to support these portfolios include competitive analysis, long-term product line planning, product life cycle management, product definition, strategy, promotion, and prioritization. This role will lead a team of ART (Agile Release Train) Product Managers and oversee the execution of specific product disciplines such as Firmware, Power, Mechanical, Safety, Security, Test, and Industrialization. This role provides an opportunity to strategically lead one of the largest portfolios within Rockwell Automation and is critical to the success of the business.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Applies market, customer, industry, application, and technical knowledge to assist in preparing Product Requirement Document (PRD) for product development projects (new, line extensions, enhancements, and cost reductions).
  • Assists in defining specifications with price, cost, and reliability objectives for product development projects.
  • Responsible for prioritization across a global development organization and multiple business leaders for each program increment.
  • Helps lead the preparation of on-going competitive analysis and regularly communicates relevant information throughout the organization.
  • Supports Commercial Marketing organization in the development and implementation of key programs in support of product objectives (e.g. trade shows,pre-sale and post-sale collateral, etc.).
  • Develop intuitive familiarity with product, technology, R&D, and market factors to effectively collaborate across technical and commercial teams.
  • Owns and leads several simultaneous initiatives and projects.
  • Collaborates with others to achieve strategic and tactical objectives for portfolio.Motivates team members and others within the organization toward achieving established goals.
  • Demonstrates the highest standards of integrity, ethical conduct, commitment and performance within the work team and the business unit.
  • Generates and implements innovative ideas and recommendations; encourages and supports innovative and diverse thinking, continuous improvement and fact-based risk taking in others.
  • Applies metrics to measure and ensure business value of process improvement initiatives; takes responsibility for own development and performance; seeks / facilitates continuous improvement through development planning and performance feedback.
  • Adapts to change by identifying implications of change and adjusting as needed, working with or leading others as appropriate to implement change initiatives.
  • Initiates and maintains effective working relationships across the business unit and Rockwell Automation on a global basis to achieve established product objectives.
  • Coordinates activities with other Product, Business, and Portfolio Management team members to achieve consistency of product usability, customer service, product look / feel, quality, and system integrity.
  • Is an effective and timely global communicator; keeps team members and key stakeholders well informed of product issues / direction.
  • Actively supports new Rockwell Automation and business unit programs; helps team members and key stakeholders understand the business context for change.
  • Articulates to others how work performed impacts customer, business unit and Rockwell Automation success.
  • Ensures thorough familiarity with company policies and procedures.Appropriately applies policies and procedures in compliance with government laws. Policies and procedures include, but not limited to: Standards of Business Conduct, Intellectual Property, Control Environment, Information Protection, ISO 9000 & 14000, government regulations (e.g. health, safety, quality and environmental), and functional policies published on the Rockwell Automation Information Network.
  • Responsible for assisting the Business / Portfolio Managers and / or the Business Directors as assigned in duties required to meet global business unit and department objectives.
  • Assist the Business Manager and / or the Product Manager to develop, implement and achieve the global business unit Product Strategy and Annual Operating Plan.
  • Partners with internal / external customers and coordinates through others to resolve complex problems with broad and long-term implications; and respond with urgency to unique needs and deliver timely, cost-effective quality solutions.
  • Invests time to expand knowledge of global industry trends, customer issues, competition, etc.; approaches problem solving with a global perspective.
  • Leads and influences across functional areas including Hardware, Firmware, and Software Development, Test Engineering, Project Management, Industrialization Engineering, Quality, Certification, Technical Writing, and Finance.
  • Works in a dynamic, matrix-style organization that demands tight collaboration with the Active and Legacy Product Management teams.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Computer or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Legal authorization to work in the US is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a minimum of eight years management and people leadership experience in leading tactical directions for products and / or projects.
  • Typically requires a minimum of eight years in an Industrial Automation / Power Control Product Management and / or Engineering role where you have worked closely with Industrial Automation products and technologies including Variable Frequency Drives.
  • Masters preferred in engineering or business discipline.
  • Experience with commercial and technical leadership including strategy and business case development.
  • Ability to influence cross functionally to achieve key business objectives.
  • Familiarity with the global Industrial Automation and / or Variable Frequency Drive market space and trends.
  • Variable Frequency Drive start-up experience.
  • Experience with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and related software.
  • Experience working in a matrix organization supporting a global portfolio.
