Job Summary:

If you are a college graduate that has an electrical engineering degree with 0-2 years' experience, Avnet's Sales Engineer Rotation Program (SERP) could be your opportunity! The SERP program is designed to transition the college engineering graduate into a Field Sales Engineering (FSE) role. As a FSE at Avnet you'll utilize your technical education to build relationships with customers, understand their product development needs, and recommend solutions. You'll be able to make recommendations from Avnet's extensive list of suppliers that cover Semiconductors and Interconnect, Passive, and Electromechanical (IP&E) products.

Avnet recognizes the need to support your transition from college into a Field Sales Engineering (FSE) role. That's why we've developed a structured training program to provide you the knowledge and skills necessary for a strong start to your career. Our program is 3-6 months long and consists of formal trainings and hands-on experiences to prepare you for the FSE role. During this training program you'll work with:

  • Inside Sales/Customer Support Analysts (Sales Operation): This experience will give you hands-on knowledge with systems and processes for managing the supply chain aspect of customer orders.
  • Account Managers: This experience will offer you firsthand knowledge of Avnet's sales process. You'll partner with experienced Account Managers to learn how to build a customer relationship, uncover and develop business opportunities, and nurture them to orders and billings.
  • Field Applications Engineers: This experience will be focused on understanding the products Avnet represents with our extensive supplier line-up. You'll partner with an Avnet engineer and learn the important features and functionality of semiconductor and IP&E products. This will lead to your ability to engage with customer design engineers and capture their design requirements and provide product recommendations.

As Avnet works with many suppliers, there are opportunities to have Avnet FSE trainees participate in a select number of companies sales engineering development programs. When possible you may be assigned to a particular rotation at a supplier and work with their Account Managers, Field Applications Engineers, or Product Marketers to gain a deeper understanding of that suppliers products.

These roles will typically be based in large Avnet branches, such as San Jose or Boston. Upon successful completion of the program you'll be assigned your own sales assignment to achieve a strategic priority for Avnet. As a FSE you are responsible for:

  • Learn and understand business and technical requirements of clients in order to sell effective solutions that drive business value and have a clear ROI
  • Build, maintain and strengthen trusted client relationships to ensure an ongoing relationship with the customer.
  • Actively pursue and hunt for new business opportunities within existing accounts as well as identify and win new sales from additional business opportunities
  • Network within the industry, market, peers, and accounts to identify new opportunities
  • Understand the customer's business model, growth objectives and customer experience strategy to position company offerings and expertise to assist in accomplishing those goals.
  • Understand competitive landscape and properly position company's differentiators to win pursuits.
  • Develop and foster strong relationships with the channel partners to drive opportunities and maintain alignment during and post sales cycles.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum experience required is typically less than 2 years with bachelor's or equivalent.

Education and Certification(s):

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience from which comparable knowledge and job skills can be obtained.

Distinguishing Characteristics:

  • BS in Electrical Engineering, (Mechanical Engineering may be considered)
  • Internship in hardware board design, embedded processing, analog, or wireless communications.
