General Description of Position: Ivy Tech Community College is a community based technical college which places primary emphasis on excellence in the classroom instruction. Faculty members are expected to demonstrate and maintain competence in each of the following areas throughout their employment at the college.
Major Responsibilities:

  1. Mastery of Subject Matter






    1. Demonstrate a thorough and accurate knowledge of the field or discipline.
    2. Display an ability to interpret and evaluate theories in the field or discipline.
    3. Connect subject matter with related fields.
    4. Stay current in subject matter through professional development.






  1. Teaching Performance






    1. Plan and organize instruction in ways which maximize student learning.
    2. Employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies.
    3. Modify, where appropriate, instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse student's needs.
    4. Employ available instructional technology when appropriate.
    5. Encourage the development of communication skills and higher order thinking skills through appropriate assignments.
    6. Communicate subject matter to students.
    7. Contribute to the selection and development of instructional materials.
    8. Support classroom efforts to promote student success.






  1. Evaluation of Student Learning






    1. Establish and adhere to learning objectives.
    2. Develop evaluation methods which fairly measure student progress toward objectives.
    3. Evaluate and return student work to promote maximum learning.
    4. Maintain accurate records of student progress.
    5. Submit final grade rosters, grade books and attendance rosters to division administrators each semester according to established deadlines.






  1. Support of College Policies and Procedures






    1. Meet scheduled classes in accordance with college policy.
    2. Prepare, distribute and submit syllabi approved course outlines for all assigned sections in accordance with program and divisional policies.







    1. Maintain confidentiality of student information.
    2. Exercise stewardship of College facilities and materials.






  1. Participation in College, Division and Program Activities






    1. Respond, in a timely fashion, to information requests from College, division and program administrators.
    2. Contribute, when appropriate, to program and division curriculum development processes. Attend program, divisional and College meetings and events as feasible.






  1. Contribution to the Growth and Enhancement of College Mission and Programs






    1. Maintain familiarity with College goals, mission and long-range plans.
    2. Contribute to planning and development processes where appropriate.





Minimum Qualifications:

Psychology Discipline Standard:

A qualified faculty member in psychology meets the discipline standard through one of two routes:

1. Possesses an earned master's or higher degree, from a regionally accredited institution, in psychology, educational psychology, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, social psychology, or any other professionally recognized specialty in psychology, or

2. Possesses an earned master's or higher degree, from a regionally accredited institution, in any field with 18 graduate semester hours in psychology-related courses, including a course in statistics and/or research methodology.
