The Foundations Program at the School of Art and Design, New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University seeks adjunct faculty members that value foundations education as integral to an enriching BFA/BS experience, beginning Spring 2023. The ideal faculty member acts upon these values in a meaningful way within the program, becoming an active member of our creative community. A Foundations faculty member teaches 4 to 8 credits within an 8-credit course in collaboration with up to 14 other faculty. They may at times work with large groups of students (up to 100), but more often work with small sections (approximately 16), providing one-on-one project guidance. All faculty should be prepared for weekly meetings and team grading. The faculty member is expected to bring their expertise to a diverse team to collaborate on building experiences that align with the curriculum's objectives and mission. Beyond class time, faculty are expected to participate in collaborative planning and assessment. The Foundations Program at the School of Art and Design, New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University is founded upon a historically progressive foundations studio model. The curriculum provides a vibrant, immersive first-year experience for SOAD's multidisciplinary, materially focused students within a energetic creative community. The program aims to be responsive to the nuanced needs of first year students and to provide an inclusive and equitable environment. The School of Art and Design at Alfred University is an accredited member of NASAD, with 33 full-time faculty serving more than 400 students. The School is Unique among institutions of higher education with an open curriculum, allowing a robust and diverse experience in studio art, design, and art history courses. Students and faculty alike thrive in an intensive and supportive learning environment. School of Art and Design students are fully integrated into Alfred University's community of 2,000 students. The New York State College of Ceramics Located in rural Western NY, Alfred University is the second oldest co-educational college in the United States and one of the earliest to have enrolled African-American and Native American students.
