About the Team

The Publishing & Media Tooling Platforms are the backbone of all content that flows through the Yahoo ecosystem (articles, videos, notifications, etc). This content management system enables 2000+ global editors to write, manage, and program the content that gets distributed to all Yahoo properties, as well as external partners. As a designer on this team, you will help shape the new core design system and build a unified user experience across the tools to create a cohesive user experience. You will also be instrumental in supporting new features and capabilities to build and craft editors' storytelling.

About the Role

Yahoo is seeking an experienced designer and strategic thinker to create digital experiences that span multiple Yahoo properties and device types. As a Senior Product Designer, you will create well-thought-out user journeys that powers the connection between journalists and our users, balancing editorial-user needs, consumer-user expectations and business goals to design interfaces focusing on usability, flexibility and scalability. You are an enthusiastic design pioneer with pixel perfect sensitivity and UX skills, who can communicate a vision through design thinking, hands-on design and any skill in between. When designing, you will keep an eye towards the future and strike the right balance between current and innovative design. You are able to have deep conversations with software engineers and architects about complex multi-faceted systems, synthesizing it all into easy to understand diagrams and visualizations used to identify opportunities and facilitate problem-solving discussions.

  • Solves user problems in creative ways that go beyond obvious, expected solutions

  • Demonstrates high emotional intelligence when interacting with teammates and other co-workers

  • Presents designs clearly and confidently to facilitate useful feedback while shifting approach based on the audience and desired outcome

  • Takes initiative and accountability for timelines, deliverables and outcomes

  • Contributes to the design community both inside your company and beyond

  • Desires and takes action to grow professional skills.

Responsibilities

  • As an integral part of the team, defining and growing the content management and publishing platform that powers all of the content flowing through the Yahoo Ecosystem

  • Turn broad, ambiguous user and business challenges into clear, valuable and delightful solutions

  • Connect user research and data insights to design decisions at every stage of development

  • Experience working across web and native platforms

  • Define and contribute to a design system that supports design and engineering processes

  • Mentor and provide feedback with humor, grace and empathy to teammates and cross-functional partners.

  • Able to develop insightful and engaging presentations, effective visual communication, and other methods for communicating complex systems and logic across multiple levels of the organization

  • Able to work independently while communicating and collaborating closely with other team members

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in digital product design for web and mobile products and services.

  • Experience designing all aspects of large-scale content management systems including content creation, editing, publishing platforms

  • Experience defining and building scalable design systems

  • Portfolio that demonstrates expertise in visual design, interaction design, prototyping and product thinking.

  • Demonstrated history of leading a user-centered design process from end-to-end.

  • Mastery in UX software such as Figma, to create design concepts, prototypes, assets and specifications.

  • Excellent communication, facilitation, presentation, and interpersonal skills to clearly communicate and collaborate with diverse, multi-disciplinary teams

  • Flexible and comfortable with ambiguity and change - able to facilitate discussions and aid in conversations through visual aids

  • Strong work ethic, integrity, and collaborative approach to work

The compensation for this position ranges from $128,250.00 - $266,875.00/yr and will vary depending on factors such as your location, skills and experience. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonus or commissions, in addition to equity incentives. Yahoo provides industry-leading benefits including healthcare, 401K savings plan, company holidays, vacation, sick time, parental leave and an employee assistance program.
