Communications Specialist

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Communications Specialist will develop and implement effective communications that position Bass Pro Shops as North America's premier outdoor and conservation company. Joining the communications team, this role will support ongoing media outreach across North America, monitor campaign success and develop messaging for special events and promotions.

We're seeking an enthusiastic and creative professional with a proven track record of effectively managing PR campaigns for an established brand. The ideal candidate has a passion for the Bass Pro Shops family of brands and our mission to inspire everyone to enjoy, love and conserve the great outdoors.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Prepare and deliver daily media monitoring to keep key business partners and leadership informed of timely industry updates and of the company's mentions in local and national news. (25%)
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including marketing, social media and creative to develop messaging and strategic content ideas for promotions, campaigns, events and announcements that drive clear narratives about the company's brands, partnerships, products, values and mission. (15%)
  • Provide ongoing and proactive outreach and coordination for media opportunities at 200 locations across North America. (15%)
  • Build and maintain targeted media outreach databases to ensure optimal exposure when distributing media releases and communications. (10%)
  • Assist with developing and delivering company announcements and communications to Outfitters across North America. (10%)
  • Write and develop press materials including news releases, media alerts, fact sheets, event calendar listings for retail events and campaigns. (10%)
  • Produce engaging pitches and story angles for local and national media that translate into positive news coverage for the company and its brands, including large retail campaigns like Santa's Wonderland, Gone Fishing and more. (10%)
  • Collaborate with the communications team to support the business on other key priorities as needed. (5%)

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum Degree Required: A bachelor's degree in a related field (communications, public relations, marketing) or equivalent experience.
  • Experience: A minimum of 1-3 years of experience in a PR, communications or marketing role, with experience working for a major brand preferred.

  • Mature thinker - You bring poise, a sense of calm and a clear head when faced with challenges. You can think critically on your feet and ask for help when needed.

INDEPENDENT JUDGEMENT:
Performs duties within scope of general company policies, procedures, and objectives. Analyzes problems and performs needs assessments. Uses judgment in adapting broad guidelines to achieve desired result. Regular exercise of independent judgment within accepted practices. Makes recommendations that affect policies, procedures, and practices.
