Have you worked on applications of reinforcement learning to interesting applications in control? Are you fascinated by the connection between perception and action? Have you used sample behaviors, in an imitation learning system, to get an algorithm to more quickly learn to "do the right thing"? Have you studied AI planning, including means-ends analysis, and have you used deep learning to guide the search of a planner? Are you interested in how language is used in reasoning, and to guide action? The Technology Development Group is working on systems related to all these ideas. We're passionate about the construction of effective and easy-to-use systems that exhibit intelligent behavior. We're looking for a driven and self-motivated software engineer to join us in this work. Key Qualifications
  • Masters plus five years of relevant work experience or Ph.D with two years of relevant work experience
  • Knowledge and experience in machine learning, with specific expertise in using machine learning for animation, reinforcement learning, imitation learning, or other deep learning algorithms.
  • Experience in at least one major machine learning framework: DeepRL, Caffe, TensorFlow, Torch, Keras, etc.
  • Knowledge and experience with general-purpose AI, knowledge representation, and reasoning.
  • Solid mathematical foundation to understand and advance our understanding of machine learning techniques.
  • Practical experience in Python, C, C++. Objective-C and Swift experience would be extremely useful as well.
  • Creativity and curiosity for solving highly complex problems, and a team-oriented attitude (you need to work well with others) - must also be an excellent communicator.
Description
Investigate and apply machine learning / reinforcement learning / AI planning techniques to practical problems. Evaluate and fine-tune algorithms - write code that really performs. Optimize code performance for real-time and low-power constraints. Collaborate with broader teams across Apple. If you love code, algorithms, complexity analysis, space / time optimization, and building systems that really perform, then this could be the position for you.
Education & Experience
PhD degree with a focus on machine learning and reinforcement learning; alternatively, a comparable masters degree and at least five years of practical industry experience.

  • At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $130,000 and $242,000, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
