General Description
Role and Responsibilities
Aid in developing students towards their academic achievement goals by meeting on a regular basis to clarify questions through various methods and enhance study skills.

  • Attend mandatory training sessions and meetings each month to acquire strategies for helping others learn
  • Maintain accurate records of tutoring by logging tutor times correctly on NECC timecards and submitting time sheets bi-weekly
  • Schedule and maintain drop-in hours and appointments with the Academic Support coordinator and tutees
  • Call 24 hours in advance if unable to keep schedule sessions by contacting the tutee and the Academic Support Coordinator
  • Exchange contact information with tutees in case of schedule changes
  • Contact instructors to obtain course material and contact students throughout the semester via e-mail
  • Tutor in pre-approved designated areas located on the Northeast Community College Campus
  • Review tutee contract before their first session to establish the expectations of the tutoring relationship
  • Prepare adequately for tutoring sessions by possessing the correct textbook and instructional materials
  • Function as a resource for tutees NOT as an instructor or someone that does the work for the tutee
  • Other duties may be assigned by Academic Support Coordinator during semester including advertising services, professional development, various meetings, and additional responsibilities

Qualifications: Education
Associate degree or higher in a field related to that which you wish to tutor for
Qualification:Experience
GPA of 3.0 or higher AND received a B or higher in course related to that which you wish to tutor for
Instructor must approve tutor for each course being tutored
Qualification:Skills
Strong communication skills, responsible, professional, high level of maturity, high problem-solving skills, accountable
