About the Job

Dr. Joseph M. Metzger, in The Department of Integrative Biology and Physiology (IBP) at the University of Minnesota Medical School, is seeking outstanding candidates for a Researcher 5 role. The job level/salary is commensurate with experience, and could be reported/hired as a Researcher 6 based on candidate qualifications.

Summary
The primary purpose of the work performed is to discover and disseminate new insights into cardiac and muscle molecular and integrative physiology. Designing and conducting experiments, analyzing data, developing presentations and publications in peer reviewed journals are requirements. Developing grant applications for extramural funding as well as work with PI on grant applications. This includes intellectual contributions to the direction of the research conducted in the lab.

  • Designing, implementing and development of research projects to better study acquired and inherited cardiomyopathies and skeletal muscle diseases and seek potential therapeutics for these disease states.
  • Have great knowledge base and have published papers in muscular dystrophies from basic mechanism to therapeutics.
  • Analyzing, preparing and organizing data for presentations and publications
  • Stay at the intellectual forefront of the field through attending presentations and scientific meetings as well as through review of the literature.
  • Be a resource for fellow lab personnel for guidance and troubleshooting.

  • Dissemination of the knowledge discovered by my research.
  • Develop and give oral presentations and posters at local and international meetings
  • Develop and write journal articles to be submitted and published in peer-reviewed journals
  • Write expert-level reviews of the literature in the field of molecular and integrative cardiology.

  • Actively seek extramural funding.
  • Develop, write and submit grant applications for funding
  • Work with lab PI to help develop and write extramural grant applications
Qualifications

Required Qualifications: Advanced degree (Master's degree or Ph.D.) in biomedical science field and at least one year of research training.
