The University of Minnesota School of Dentistry invites applications and nominations for the position of Chair of the Department of Developmental and Surgical Sciences. The department plays an integral role in the school's mission of advancing health through scientific discovery and translation, innovative education, and providing the highest-quality care for all communities. We are seeking a dynamic, energetic, and visionary department chair with strong clinical, research and leadership skills to guide a multi-divisional department, which includes Hospital Dentistry, Orthodontics, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Pediatric Dentistry, Periodontics, and clinics for patients with Cleft Palate and orofacial abnormalities, geriatrics, and special needs. This department also includes advanced education programs in Orthodontics, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Pediatric Dentistry, and Periodontology. Each program is engaged in education, research and clinical care. The chair must show an understanding and appreciation of this tripartite mission which should be advanced by creating and supporting diverse teams of professionals. The Department Chair reports directly to the Dean of the School of Dentistry and is a member of the Dean's Executive Team, known as the Council of Chairs. The School of Dentistry is one of six health care schools and centers within the Health Sciences at the University of Minnesota, and attracts high quality faculty and students.
