Summary:

Part-time (approx. 10 to 25 hours per week). Tutors support student success by utilizing a personalized approach to help each student gain a deeper understanding of course material, devise effective learning strategies, engage in critical thinking, and acquire additional academic skills in order to help the student reach educational goals. Tutors may meet with students on an individual or small group basis on campus and/or online. Tutors are provided with College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) training and are expected to obtain certification within one year of employment. Tutors are also expected to participate in staff meetings and ongoing professional development activities, promptly respond to correspondence from Learning Center staff, and maintain complete and accurate records. Additional responsibilities may be assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Thorough understanding of the subject(s) that they will tutor

  • An Associate degreeor above in the discipline or a related field from a regionally accredited institution

  • A grade of B or above in each course the candidate intends to tutor

  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, strong analytical skills, an interest in working with a diverse population of students, patience, and a genuine desire to help others learn and succeed

  • Previous experience as a peer or professional tutor is a plus but not required

The number of positions hired varies from semester to semester, depending upon the needs of the department and the College.
