Intern - Web Development (Hybrid Schedule)

HHMI is focused on supporting and moving science forward in a variety of different ways ranging from conducting basic biomedical research, empowering educators, inspiring students, developing the next generation of scientists - even stretching into film and media production. We are looking for a summer intern to join us on an 8-12-week assignment where they will work on a major redesign project for our website, and provide development support for some of our smaller websites. We believe this will provide a fantastic opportunity for a developing Computer Science student to gain real insight to both large and small-scale website development.

• A hybrid work schedule with 2 days in our Chevy Chase, MD office and 3 days remote per week

Have the opportunity to work side-by-side with our Web Development team to support the redesign of the Janelia.org website and other projects. Flex any existing skills working with technologies such as PHP/Drupal, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript while continuing to expand your knowledge and understanding. We will teach you that website development requires more than just technical know-how - it includes important skills like collaboration between multiple business departments, design firms, and other members of IT to successfully implement projects.

• An in-progress undergraduate degree with some previous experience or coursework with web CMS technologies (such as Drupal, WordPress, or other similar frameworks)

• Prior hands-on development experience writing: HTML, CSS, PHP, and JavaScript

• Familiarity with design tools such as Figma, UNIX command line, Git, and DevOps pipelines are a plus!

Compensation Range:

Intern, Web Development - $25.00 (minimum) - $30.00 (midpoint) - $35.00 (maximum)

Pay Type: Hourly

HHMI's salary structure is developed based on relevant job market data. HHMI considers a candidate's education, previous experiences, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity when making job offers. Typically, a new hire for this position in this location is compensated between the minimum and the midpoint of the salary range.
