Job Summary: The engineer in training is an entry level developmental position involved in the application of engineering fundamentals to the design and construction of buildings and other structures. Duties/Responsibilities:
- Under licensed engineer's supervision, develops feasible engineering design alternatives that meet the project requirements.
- Assists others in developing concepts, research code requirements, analyzing civil design, and produces construction cost estimates.
- Utilizes computer software to create detailed drawings and design layouts for water and sewer lines, hydrology/hydraulic modeling and for construction of municipal roadways, including but not limited to plan and profile views, cross sections, details, and schedules.
- Develops plans for projects through AutoCAD Civil 3D using horizontal alignments, vertical profiles, typical sections, and various design criteria.
- Calculates dimensions and material quantities.
- Prepares reports, specifications, schedules and permitting for projects.
- Encouraged to solve engineering problems using judgement, and education, but is expected to ask for assistance when needed.
- May be asked to participate in non-design engineering activities such as construction inspection, surveying, CADD production, and site data collection.
- Receives instructions from Director, Project Manager, or Senior Project Engineers as to the general results expected.
- Research design options and document findings for Senior Project Engineers and Project Managers.
- Keeps Director informed of workload and any changes in project scope or schedule.
- Ability to create and maintain project records.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

Education and Experience:
- Degree in Engineering is required.
- Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam, earning EI designation.
- AutoCAD training or experience is highly desired.
- Construction inspection experience is helpful, but not required.
