Position Summary:
A graduate student developer experienced in Unity and C# for VR content development is solicited to participate in a federally funded project that integrates next generation virtual reality, artificial intelligence, and low vision rehabilitation, an emerging medical application of growing importance.
The recruited developer will join and work with an interdisciplinary team of computer scientists, optometrist, graduate students, and other developers. The position will help you advance your programming skills and experience, and expose you to cutting edge research and next generation VR applications, with possibilities for pipelining you subsequently into respective industry or PhD research positions, depending on your longer-term interests and performance on this project. The developer will take the lead in developing VR content for low vision rehabilitation training in three key scenarios. Ample support from the team will be provided, in terms of equipment and software, and detailed guidance and close interaction, regarding the specifics of each scenario to be developed. The synthesis of each of the three VR training scenarios will be dynamically controlled by an external AI-based software module, in response to actions and training progress by the user. The developer will also take the lead in developing the software interface to the AI agent and establishing a synergistic integration and interoperation with it. The VR-based training scenario will be displayed to a user either on a wide field of view display or a VR head mounted display (headset).
