Summary

AC Transit is actively recruiting for the position of Parts Clerk. Under general supervision, this position stores, stocks, counts, inventories, and distributes diesel and automotive parts, and related materials to mechanics and other District staff, from a Division storage facility or the Central Maintenance Facility Warehouse.

Representative Functions

  • Identifies, retrieves, and distributes fuel, fluids, and automotive parts, and other material to District mechanics and other staff, as required for vehicle or facilities maintenance and repair.
  • Uses computer software and visual identification to locate parts and material, identifies and resolves problems related to inventory variances and storeroom operations, reconciles storeroom inventory against computer generated reports, and ensures that District stock levels, invoices and receipts are maintained accurately.
  • Provides parts identification and availability information to District staff; and responds to requests for information regarding new parts or materials to be considered for placement into inventory, suggested stock levels, and other requests such as preferred technical, quality, or brand features.
  • Works collaboratively with Purchasing Department staff to initiate the procurement of parts needed for coach repair by determining availability; and arranges for the expedited delivery of parts for vehicles that are out of service.
  • Researches information provided by the inventory software program, parts catalogs, and other sources, and contacts other District divisions and vendors to determine availability and cost, and to place orders.
  • Investigates and reports incidents of incorrect materials, supply overages, and other technical problems.Submits supporting information for the development of procedures to minimize or eliminate stock level problems.
  • Generates daily reports of stock items, and provides oral and written reports on matters related to materials and inventory in the assigned areas.
  • Coordinates and performs annual and cyclical physical inventories, as well as special inventory counts.
  • Drives a variety of medium-sized heavy duty trucks, and uses hydraulic lifts in the pick-up and delivery of parts, supplies, and other inventory.
  • Uses a variety of materials and inventory operations equipment, including forklifts, hand trucks, and pallet jacks.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience: Two (2) years of recent and verifiable experience in a materials and inventory operations environment, working as a parts clerk, stores clerk or similar inventory support position.

Education/Training: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.

License: Must possess, or obtain within thirty (30) calendar days of appointment; a Class B California Driver License with a Hazardous Materials endorsement, and meet the District's safe driving standards.

Certification: Must qualify for, and pass the District's certification test on forklift operation within thirty (30) calendar days of appointment.

Physical Requirements: Must maintain the physical condition necessary to (1) frequently perform tasks in an office setting operating a personal computer, keyboards, and other peripheral equipment; (2) maintain mobility in order to transport oneself frequently and expeditiously within a large maintenance and storage facility; (3) safely and frequently drive a District vehicle and operate equipment for the moving and storage of heavy items; and (4) frequently stand, walk, climb stairs, climb ladders to access parts, grasp, safely lift, hold, and manipulate lighter items under seventy (70) pounds; and occasionally stoop, bend, squat, and kneel.
