About the Job
This Clinical Data Analyst / Informatics Consultant will work in Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) supporting Biomedical Informatics.
Principle Duties
10% Communication: Work with investigators, research personnel and other stakeholders to promote informatics services. * Promote available CTSI Informatics services to investigators and research staff. * Coordinate user testing/usability evaluation of offered services and capture needs for potential future enhancements. * Ensure service delivery progress, delays and/or issues are regularly communicated with team management.
30% Informatics Consultation: Document project requirements, implementation plan, change management, execution and delivery. * Create consultation reports that capture project requirements, the implementation plan, as well as, the execution and delivery of the project or product. * Ensure that all informatics activities meet various compliance standards, IRB, data security, and contractual obligations of the University of Minnesota. * Follow standard operating procedures and adhere to team policies and best practices. * Strive for a high quality client experience and excellent user satisfaction. * Discuss and provide feedback related to opportunities for enhancement with team management. * Follow-up with investigators and staff to ensure delivered services meet users' expectations. * Train users on data access procedures, analysis tools, and informatics infrastructure.
60% Technical: Query, extract, integrate, format, deliver and analyze data as per project needs. * Run feasibility analysis to ensure project requirements can be processed through available informatics services. Assess availability of raw data and provide information about data quality to investigators and research personnel. * Write code to query raw data and perform data transformation using tools such as SMMS, SQL Developer, SAS and/or R. * Explore, investigate and propose alternative ways of identifying patient cohorts when data elements are not clear or are unavailable. * Work closely with other team members to review execution plans and validate results. * Continually seek to improve knowledge of new clinical data sources.
Qualifications
All required qualifications must be documented in application materials. Required Qualifications: * BA/BS and 6+ years of relevant analytical or quantitative work experience, or an advanced degree with a minimum of 4 years of experience in areas directly related to the position. Experience must include a minimum of three years of experience querying, extracting, formatting, and analyzing healthcare data such as inpatient/outpatient clinical records, labs, medications, provider data, and/or claims. * Experience working with messy real-world data. * Experience working independently in a rapidly changing scientific environment. * Proficiency with query development and report writing. * Demonstrated experience with T-SQL, PL/SQL, SAS and/or R programming languages. * Knowledge of healthcare data management concepts and regulatory/compliance policies (HIPAA, IRB, etc.). * Superior human relation skills, such as, the ability to use positive language communications to serve and influence our customers and stakeholders * Ability to participate in occasional domestic travel to attend conferences or training workshops. * Ability to support multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize assignments and work under limited supervision. * Comfortable providing rapid and timely response to urgent requests. * Comfortable following directions/instructions from supervisors and senior staff.
Preferred Qualifications: * Knowledge of clinical data and healthcare code sets and ontologies (ICD9/ICD10, CPT, NDC/RXNorm, LOINC, etc.). * Strong customer-facing experience, preferably with physicians, investigators, faculty/academic and research support staff. * Experience with data visualization tools (Qlikview, Tableau). * Research experience is a plus. * Exposure to statistical modelling and/or advanced analytics using R or Python.
