Position Summary

This is a full-time, 175-day (10-month annual contract) tenure-track faculty position in the Social and Behavioral Sciences Department. The faculty member will provide instruction in a wide variety of psychology courses, including general psychology, abnormal psychology, child psychology, research methods, etc.; develop new courses such as biological psychology; update and assess Program Learning Objectives (PLOs); plan and organize instructional materials toward course objectives; review and revise course content; maintain five (5) required office hours for student consultation; participate fully in departmental responsibilities, and in the governance of the college through committee assignments; maintain class and examination schedules, as well as grade and attendance records, according to college regulations and perform related tasks as required. The assignment may include teaching at off-campus centers and/or evening classes as well as Distance Education/online classes.

Essential Functions and Qualifications

Knowledge of and/or experience in/with:

  • teaching strategies that address the needs of students with a variety of learning styles, skills, motivation, and educational goals both in the classroom and online
  • the overall field of psychology as evidenced by undergraduate and graduate course work
  • teaching lower division college level psychology courses
Demonstrated ability to:
  • maintain a sensitivity and understanding to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of staff and students and of staff and students with disabilities
  • provide academic, career, and personal guidance for psychology students
  • work with and assist students having a broad range of skills, motivation, and academic or career technical education goals
  • communicate effectively, both in oral and written communications, and demonstrate strength in interpersonal communication
  • collaborate with both instructional and service faculty and staff to assist students to understand and use counseling, college success services, and resources
  • identify and use learning outcomes and assessments that lead to course and program improvements
  • design, review, and evaluate curriculum and make recommendations to maintain program currency for both vocational and transfer students
  • act as a primary contact for the psychology program
  • assist in scheduling classes for the psychology program
  • coordinate with Human Resources to recruit, hire, mentor and evaluate part-time faculty

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in psychology

OR

Bachelor's degree in psychology and a master's degree in counseling, sociology, statistics, neuroscience or social work.

Hiring salary range is $57,858 to $82,391 dependent upon education and experience.
