Performs diagnostic, installation, maintenance and repair work on Baltimore City Public Schools-owned school busses and other vehicles or mechanical equipment.
Essential Functions
- Diagnoses problems and performs repairs on gasoline and diesel automobiles, trucks and school buses.
- Perform Type A and Type B inspections on school buses as required by COMAR.
- Repairs engines, fuel systems, electrical systems, exhaust systems, brake systems, transmissions, differential assemblies and other vehicle components.
- Road tests vehicles to verify complaints and ensure adequacy of repair.
- Diagnose, repair, and maintain hydraulic systems including wheel chair lifts on buses.
- Performs preventive maintenance tasks on school buses, automotive equipment and other mechanical equipment.
- Performs and promotes all activities in compliance with equal employment and nondiscrimination policies; follows federal laws, state laws, school boards policies and the professional standards.
- Provides hand tools and storage cabinet as needed to efficiently perform assigned tasks.
- Maintain good housekeeping standards for work area and tool storage.

Desired Qualifications
- High School graduate or equivalent.
- Three years of maintenance and repair of automotive and other mechanical equipment experience.
- Maryland Class A or B Commercial driver's license, or an equivalent out-of-state driver's license, with air brakes, passenger and school bus endorsements.
- Knowledge of the operation and repair of various gasoline and diesel vehicles and specialized equipment, including, engines, transmissions, wheelchair lifts, and other complex components.
- Knowledge of electrical, fuel, drive train, engine, brake and exhaust systems and the techniques of their repair.
- Knowledge of the tools, equipment and machinery used in the repair of gasoline and diesel vehicles and equipment.
- Knowledge of safety practices and procedures.
- Experience diagnosing and repairing electronically controlled engines, transmissions, and fuel systems, electrical systems and other major components on vehicles and specialized equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret written work rules, service material and resources, including schematics and, trouble-shooting flow charts.
- Ability to record required service and parts information on work orders.
