Summary:

Microscopy is at the essence of Janelia, and it permeates every stratum of our scientific, educational, and outreach programs There are Janelia labs that develop transformative imaging technologies and analysis methods in collaboration with expert labs and team projects whose main focus is applications in biological research.

Janelia's Scientific Operations teams are developing, implementing, and sharing imaging excellence with both our own labs through our shared resource facilities and with the broader research community through the Advanced Imaging Center. And we don't just mean sharing microscopes. Scientific Operations is pushing the limits of all aspects of microscopy. We are also interested in deepening our capabilities in intravital imaging, computational microscopy, and machine learning.

This interdisciplinary and collaborative approach to microscopy is propelled by superb scientists. As Janelia looks to further expand its bold missions in microscopy and life sciences, we are geared up to attract diverse, talented, and motivated imaging experts to become integral parts of this exciting endeavor. About the Role:

This posting is designed as an open call for imaging experts who are excited and driven by the central role of imaging in Janelia's research and have not found other posted Janelia positions that clearly match their background and desired career direction. Physical Requirements

Compensation:

This posting encompasses many different possible positions and specific compensation will depend on the individual candidate and their background/experiences, etc. We'd love to talk more about this during the application process. Below are some examples of possible positions:

Associate Engineer (varying disciplines):

$25.50 (minimum) - $37.33 (midpoint) - $49.16 (maximum)

Pay Type: Hourly

Senior Optical Engineer:

$100,568.80 (minimum) - $125,711.00 (midpoint) - $163,424.30 (maximum)

Pay Type: Annual

Scientific Computing Associate:

$69,850 (minimum) - $87,400 (midpoint) - $113,520 (maximum)

Pay Type: Annual

Software Engineer (varying levels):

$63,500 (minimum) - $123,655 (midpoint) - $183,810 (maximum)

Pay Type: Annual

Research Specialist (varying levels):

$64,460 (minimum) - $101,035 (midpoint) - $137,610 (maximum)

Pay Type: Annual

HHMI's salary structure is developed based on relevant job market data. HHMI considers a candidate's education, previous experiences, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity when making job offers. Typically, a new hire for this position in this location is compensated between the minimum and the midpoint of the salary range.
