Position Summary

This is a full-time, 175-day (10-month annual contract) tenure-track faculty position in the Applied Behavioral Sciences Department, which hosts the Fashion and Interior Design programs. The faculty member is both an experienced educator and knowledgeable professional who employs equitable teaching pedagogy to convey the technical and work place skills of both the Fashion and Interior Design industries for the success of students. The faculty member may play a leadership role in the coordination of both programs across campus and performing campus outreach activities. The faculty will collaborate with other discipline faculty and industry representatives to maintain instructional currency and alignment with industry standards. This teaching assignment includes courses in both the Fashion and Interior Design disciplines. Courses may be scheduled both on campus, off campus locations, and online, many include day, evening and weekend hours. Additional responsibilities of full-time tenure track faculty may include but are not limited to maintaining regular office hours, curriculum review and development, participation in department meetings and events, program review, program/student learning outcomes, provide oversite of lab procedures and policies, develop outreach and publicity materials, attend specialized activities, coordinating program advisory committee meetings, participation in various college activities, development and design of instructional materials, lab procedures and policies, and writing across the curriculum; develop outreach and publicity materials; participate in department meetings; teach tutoring courses; assist students with writing assignments; teach writing workshops for students; research, evaluate, and identify funding sources for online tutorial tools; and manage the budget, financial records, audit information, and monthly payroll reports.

Essential Functions and Qualifications

Knowledge of:

  • Discipline specific pedagogy, including current theories and practices relevant the Fashion and Interior Design industry.
Demonstrated experience in:
  • teaching and instructional strategies that address the needs of students with a variety of learning styles
Demonstrated ability to:
  • apply current pedagogical theories and practices in the adult classroom and lab settings
  • work with students possessing a broad range of learning styles, writing skills, motivation, and education goals
  • establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others and work with minimum supervision
  • develop, organize, and manage systems to support the needs of the programs
  • design instructional materials for use by faculty who work directly with students pursuing study at the college
  • use instructional technology and online tutorial tools in a classroom and lab setting
  • communicate effectively, both in oral and written communication
  • apply evaluation and assessment methods that lead to program improvements

Minimum Qualifications

The faculty member must meet the minimum qualifications to teach in both the Fashion and Related Technologies and Interior Design disciplines. Professional experience may be in the following area: Working in Fashion, Merchandising/Retailing, Fashion Promotion, Sustainability, Product Development, Interior Design, Merchandising, Residential and Commercial Design or equivalent. Bachelor's degree or higher and two years of professional experience, or any associate degree and six years of professional experience.

The professional experience is required must be directly related to the faculty member's teaching assignment
OR
the equivalent per Board Policy 7211.

Evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of staff and community college students and of staff and students with disabilities.

Hiring salary range is $57,858 to $82,391 dependent upon education and experience.
