Summary:
The OR/PACU Nurse is a registered nurse who provides services as a member of the OR team, that contributes to the overall care of the patient -before, during and after surgery. The role includes technical and mechanical functions as well as having the ability to function in unusual situations by utilizing expert knowledge and professional judgement in assessing the problem and then implementing significant nursing action.
Responsibilities:
Patients and families are served in providing direct patient care services. Performs duties and conducts interpersonal relationships with co-workers, physicians and other departments in a manner designed to project a positive image of the department and hospital.

EDUCATION
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
EXPERIENCE
- Previous experience as an OR/PACU nurse preferred, but not required
LICENSURE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION
- Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of NC. ACLS and CPR certification required. CNOR desirable.
OTHER SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Good interpersonal and communication skills, good manual dexterity, ability to work as a team member, ability to accept criticism, willingness to learn and cooperate, displays calm and self-confidence in acute stressful situations. Must be able to work on a computer.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Exposure to Blood-borne pathogens requiring the use of personal protective equipment, exposure to other infectious diseases, exposure to radiation, chemicals, airborne pathogens, chemicals and electrical hazards. May experience stressful work periods. Taking call required exposure to hazardous anesthetic agents. Subject to hazards of flammable, explosive gases.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to engage in the following physical activities on a daily basis: 1. Lengthy periods of standing. 2. Moving stretchers, carts and equipment. 3. Assisting with the positioning of patients. 4. Carrying and lifting instrument sets (trays) and various items of equipment. 5. Maintain emotional stability.
