The Copyeditor is responsible for substantively editing complex daily copy for FDAnews and weekly and monthly copy for CenterWatch, adding subject tags to each story and doing a final proofread before publication. The Copyeditor will also lead the proofing of webinar transcripts, books, and management reports to ensure quality before it reaches the marketplace.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's degree or the equivalent combination of education, skills, and experience to perform the job
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSE/REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS:
  • ELS and CMPP preferred but not required
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:
  • 3+ years of copyediting experience, with at least 1 year in medical or regulatory subject matter
  • Proficiency with applying the principles of style guides, such as the Associated Press style guide and the MI&I style manual, to different types of writing
  • Ability to remain detailed-oriented and focused when processing large amounts and varieties of text
  • Basic understanding of legal issues involved in publishing, such as libel, plagiarism and copyright
  • Mastery of spelling, grammar and punctuation errors and ability to make constructive suggestions
  • Ability to meet daily deadlines with occasional after-hours deadline work
  • Ability to switch gears between subject areas and formats
  • Ability to work with a variety of writers and communicate about editing and corrections
  • Knowledge of pharma, device and clinical trials industries a plus
  • Familiarity with legislative/regulatory processes a plus
  • Understanding of B2B publications a plus
  • Manage the editing of all departmental editorial output including but not limited to newsletter stories, transcripts, management reports and books for content, brand identity, grammar and punctuation embodying the knowledge that well-edited content improves the likelihood of attracting customers to pay for premium content.
  • Meet deadlines for daily, weekly, and monthly publications
  • Provide quality control with both online and in-person sources to ensure content is evidence-based, accurate and up to date at all times. This includes application of all pertinent libel, copyright infringement and plagiarism prevention methods
  • Ensures that final copy content reflects the brand voice of the company in writing style and story structure. Re-write as needed and work collaboratively with writing staff until it does
  • Assist reporters as needed with substantive editing, ensuring proper word choice in stories, re-writing when necessary and offering ideas as to how to improve the work to increase quality, and subsequently, revenue
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor. These may, on occasion, be unrelated to the position described here.

Expected annual base salary range: $55,400 - $70,000
