Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Senior Financial Analyst-Decision Support & Value Improvement.

In this role, the successful candidate in the Decision Support team is an essential asset to the health system, providing Cost Accounting, benchmarking, and analytical services to inform sound business decisions across the institution. The team is comprised of 15 FTEs and supported by a fully dedicated IT group. The Decision Support team partners directly with clinical, operational, and cross-functional teams across the enterprise to inform and assist in the achievement of institutional goals. Under the guidance of the Assistant Director of Decision Support, the Sr. Financial Analyst will be responsible for the production of financial reports and analyses that assist in the monitoring of the hospitals financial performance. This role will be responsible for monthly and quarterly reporting, projects and ad hoc reporting as assigned using the EPSi decision support/cost accounting system, Tableau, Alteryx, Excel, SQL and other software as appropriate.

Job Responsibilities:

Position Responsibilities

    • Develop an in-depth understanding of the internal costing system (EPSi) and effectively run accurate EPSi reports; understand the relationship between the various EPSi fields and the potential restrictions when resolving crucial business decisions from stakeholders
    • Support day-to-day operations related to the monthly costing close process of the EPSi Decision Support System including but not limited to; revenue and expense analyses, direct and indirect departmental reviews, EPIC cost center creation and mapping.
    • Support new and ongoing projects relating to the identification of cost saving opportunities, physician resource utilization analyses, revenue budget creation, quality/cost analysis, and dashboard creation/review.
    • Support of the Hospital's Value Based Management projects, Labor productivity tool, financial dashboards, various benchmarking activities and other projects as needed.
    • Package and summarize analytical findings with clear understanding of results and thoughtful recommendations
    • Independently develop analytical frameworks for large, complex data sets and exercise discretion and judgement in analytical approach
    • Proactively communicate to management any arising issues or barriers to meet timelines/deliverables
    • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement (e.g. improving data integrity, process flow); act independently on resolving / improving
    • Demonstrate initiative for taking on new tasks or responsibilities. Exhibits creative thinking by suggesting alternative and innovative solutions to problems encountered

Additional Position Specific Responsibilities:
The ideal candidate would be experienced intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel, familiar with cost accounting, data reconciliation, data analysis, and data visualization. In addition, the candidate should be comfortable with handling large data sets, have strong communication skills, and a team-oriented perspective.

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Bachelors degree with a major in a business subject (e.g. accounting, finance, economics) and 3-5 years of related experience. A graduate in business or public administration is preferred. Other minimum qualifications include: excellent oral and written communication skills, analytical skills, problem solving skills, and a comprehensive knowledge all applications within Microsoft Office; specifically with Excel. He or She must know vlookups, pivot tables, sub-totals, and other Excel functions.

Preferred Qualifications:
Must have a general understanding of the Healthcare industry, accounting and/or finance. The individual should demonstrate strong analytical and communication skills. The Sr. Financial Analyst assists in developing a partnership between finance and the Health System to support stakeholder decision-making. Aptitude for leveraging technologies to manage large datasets or project management a plus.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $76,721.84-$97,198.17 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
