Marketing and Communications Director

The Director, Marketing & Communications will work on a wide range of internal and external communications that contribute to Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia's voice, presence, and reputation in the community. Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia is one of the leading local non-profits working to improve housing options for families in need, with a well-known brand and an ever-growing audience of volunteers, donors, and supporters. This position's responsibilities center primarily on driving the over-arching communications strategy for Habitat's marketing and communications efforts annually. This includes the strategy and execution of large-scale fundraising campaigns and events, marketing for two Habitat ReStores, and a strong focus on attracting earned media for Habitat's programs, partnerships, and initiatives. In addition, this role will work closely with the Leadership Team on crisis communication and to develop thought leadership opportunities for experts at Habitat Philadelphia.
Essential Responsibilities

General
Develop and manage Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia's (HFHP's) overall Communications Strategy and Content Calendar.
Coordinate with Development and Leadership Teams to craft strategic organizational messaging. Identify and develop compelling stories and content that reflect the organization's strategic priorities, messaging and image.
Manage outputs of the Marketing and Communications Associate and Marketing and Communications Brand Manager through communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching and developing employees
Develop Individual Development Plans for direct reports and maintain consistent communication about their career paths within Habitat Philadelphia
Develop a long-term growth plan for the marketing and communication team
Work closely with Director of Development and Chief Development Officer to produce communication plans that ensure annual fundraising goals are achieved.
Maintain accountability and management of all external facing communication, ensuring brand requirements are met and that messaging positions Habitat Philadelphia as an affordable housing leader in the community.

Media Relations
Communicate with media regularly. Build and maintain relationships with press and media contacts, and act on opportunities for earned media with a focus on print stories.
Create all media advisories, press releases, opinion pieces, etc.
Manage media inquiries and arrange interviews, statements etc.
Serve as the point person for development and implementation of media-based crisis communications plans.
Leverage thought leadership opportunities to position Habitat Philadelphia as affordable housing expert in the city.

Website
Maintain and use HFHP's website to develop and reinforce the organization's mission and vision by creating content for social media platforms.
Supervise Associate to implement social media strategies: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Flickr, YouTube Monitor and optimize online performance data using Google Analytics and other analytics insights tools.
Ensure appropriate communication and marketing strategies for HFHP events and manage all online components.

Publications
Develop strategy and oversee the production and publishing of print and digital communications pieces and campaigns, including but not limited to: annual report, annual appeal, print newsletters, event and campaign-specific publications, press releases, website, e-newsletters (general and ReStore), blog, social media, etc.

Fundraising
Develop strategy and produce content for promoting the organization's fundraising initiatives.
Create, project manage and execute online fundraising campaigns (Habitat Day of Giving).
Serve as key team member in planning and execution of HFHP's large annual fundraiser, the Building Hope Luncheon, including helping to secure a speaker, write and edit scripts, develop a theme and key messaging, manage the design and print of all collateral, manage video production, and develop all day-of visuals for the event.

Consultant relations
Develop and coordinate in-house and paid marketing, including advertising campaigns, website, and social media content, blogs, Google Ad words, etc.
Manage external vendors including contract development, invoicing, relationship management (printer, mail house, web designer, video production company)

Logistics
Participate in professional development opportunities related to this position
Track expenses on monthly statement for approval
Manage and maintain media relationships
Travel to and from meetings and appointments in locations and times when public transit might not be available
Effective December 1, 2022, all new hires are not required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, but it is strongly encouraged

Qualifications
Required Background, Skills and Qualifications:
Understanding of Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia's vision and desire to advance our mission of affordable housing for all
Minimum of 1-3 years of office work experience in a related professional setting, preferably in fundraising and nonprofit environment
Minimum of 6-8 years of marketing and communication experience, preferably in a nonprofit environment
Strong writing skills
Demonstrated history of media placements in Philadelphia market
Crisis communication experience a plus
Prior experience with Salesforce and/or other CRM systems
Self-motivated team player, with strong organizational and communication skills
Flexibility, ability to adapt to shifting priorities
Highly reliable, extremely organized, and detail-oriented
Competency with Microsoft Office Suite
Discretion with confidential information

Physical Requirements to Perform Duties:
Ability to be stationary for long periods at a computer
