Position: Costumer for Dance Production - Kinesis
Location: Winnetka & Northfield Campuses
Rate of Pay: .25 of D stipend, not less than $1,632.75
Reports to: Dance Division Coordinator and Performing Arts Coordinator
Starting Dates: September 5, 2023
End Dates: February 16, 2024

Description
The costumer meets with the Artistic Directors, Guest Choreographers, and student choreographers to discuss the overall concept for the production. Once an overall costume design is established, the costumer builds, pulls from stock, rents, and/or buys costumes for the dancers in the production. The costumer alters clothing pieces as needed and ensures that the pieces are in good repair and appearance. The costumer acts as costumer master/mistress and attends some studio showings and all dress rehearsals and performances. The costumer is responsible for repairing, cleaning, and restocking/returning all pieces to their assigned location following the production, as well as ensuring the organization of the costume storage facility. Responsibilities for the Kinesis Dance Company season run September-February.

Qualifications
  1. Significant experience in costume design and production.
  2. Experience with high school students preferred.
Responsibilities
  1. Watches studio showings to meet with students and to determine individual costume needs. This may be done through video or in person.
  2. Meets with the Directors, Guest Choreographers and student choreographers to determine costume needs: style, design, and colors.
  3. In association with the Directors, devises a concept for costumes.
  4. Measures each cast member, if needed, to determine proper fittings.
  5. Designs costumes for each dancer.
  6. Builds, pulls from stock, rents, and/or buys costumes, including footwear when necessary. An emphasis will be placed on repurposing/reusing the costumes in stock rather than purchasing new.
  7. Abides by calendar and completes all costuming by first technical rehearsal.
  8. Makes appropriate costume alterations.
  9. Attends Dress Rehearsals and makes appropriate alterations.
  10. Acts as costume mistress/master for all performances.
  11. Cleans and repairs costumes as needed.
  12. Returns New Trier costumes to storage.
  13. Cleans and organizes costume areas.
