JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Director of Residence Life & Housing is a full time twelve-month senior professional member in the Division of Student Development. The Director provides oversight, vision and management for the College's residential program. They supervise the residential team, including hiring, guidance, support, training, and evaluation of the Director for Housing Operations, Associate Director of Residence Life & Housing, Assistant Director for Living & Learning, four (4) Area Coordinators, (4) Resident Directors, (2) Graduate Assistants, an Administrative Assistant, and paraprofessional student staff. The Director is responsible for developing a strategic vision for the department that aligns with the College's strategic plan. The Director is responsible for planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating living-learning environments in the residence halls that offer opportunities for individual and group development congruent with the mission of the College. The Director ensures that residence halls are conducive to learning, leadership, educational opportunities, and healthy socializing by fostering a welcoming and supportive environment that promotes, values, and supports diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. As a senior member of the Division of Student Development staff the Director participates in planning, serves on college committees, and shares in the Dean/Director on-call rotation.

Major Area of Responsibility:
  • Set the vision, agenda and planning for the College's residential program.
  • Create, maintain and develop relationships with faculty, staff and other College stakeholders for the delivery of a quality living and learning environment for residents
  • Develop and assess the First Year residential program Montserrat in coordination with campus partners.
  • Oversees strategic planning for the department and contribute to the Division of Student Development
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate professional staff (Director, Associate Director, Assistant Director, ACs/RDs and student staff (HRAs and RAs).
  • Collaborate with campus partners to organize, implement, evaluate, and ensure that the educational and developmental goals of the department are being achieved.
  • Formulate, articulate, and implement programs that support the departmental philosophy and college mission in the residential environment. Advise staff on providing educational experiences in living cooperatively, developing and clarifying values, developing awareness of and appreciation for new ideas, cultural appreciation and lifestyle differences, developing independence, and reflection.
  • Respond to student and parental concerns and questions.
  • Supervise all business operations for the department, billing accuracy, residential enrollment and operating budgets.
  • Support Hall Council programming and leadership development.
  • Oversee specialty housing opportunities and initiatives.
  • Maintain the on-call calendar and emergency response procedures for Residence Life & Housing staff members in conjunction with other departments and the Associate Dean. Serve in the Dean/Director on-call rotation.
  • Represent Student Development on division and campus wide committees and task forces.
  • Serve as a community standards officer.
  • In collaboration with other directors supported by the Associate Dean for Student Engagement, provide annual reports and conduct routine assessment of programs.
  • Meet with student groups regularly to assess the needs of residential students.
  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS:

A Master's degree in student development/higher education administration or related field is required. Minimum 6-8 years of progressive supervisory experience in Residence Life & Housing. The successful candidate will have comprehensive knowledge of and experience in residence life at a residential college or university. The successful candidate will have experience with strategic planning and be able to demonstrate collaborative work habits and the desire and ability to create a comprehensive residential living and learning environment. The successful candidate will have an understanding of and be supportive of the Jesuit mission of Holy Cross.
