Peer Support Staff

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Crisis Peer Specialist will provide support to high utilizing consumers and their families and will work in conjunction with a certified Mental Health Screener. The Crisis Peer Specialist will be available to consumers both on-site at the designated screening center and off-site in the community during mobile outreaches and community face to face follow-ups. The Crisis Peer Specialist will assist with identifying those high utilizing individuals who would benefit from face-to-face follow-ups. The off-site work may include working alongside a certified mental health screener who works directly with local trained law enforcement in the field. The goal will be to divert individuals from the screening center if possible as well as following up with individuals identified as being high utilizers of emergency services.

The addition of peer support services will extend the reach of treatment beyond the clinical setting, promote wellness and recovery, support individuals to engage in treatment, and provide encouragement. The Crisis Peer Specialist will extend support outside of the clinical setting and aid the screening center in engaging consumers in their time of crisis with a special emphasis on diversion, prevention, linkage to services and the enhancement of the individual s strengths.

The Crisis Peer Specialist and Certified Screener will participate in RWJBH, Newark Beth Israel Medical Center orientation as well as department specific orientation and successful completion of BEST training Crisis De-Escalation Training. The Crisis Peer Specialist position would require a High School diploma or equivalent and one-year involvement in mental health advocacy.

The pediatric staff pharmacist works in the decentralized pharmacy satellite and provides collaborative pharmaceutical care to the Children s Hospital of New Jersey including NICU and PICU, and the emergency department.
