Responsibilities

Reporting to the Campus Dean,the Assistant/Associate Professor and Chair, Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM) will provide on campus teaching in the specialty field of OMM and oversee the medical student education by the clinical faculty within the discipline at the Arkansas campus site.

    Develop and refine the on-campus curriculum specific to OMM (whether a course or within a course).
  • Oversee the clinical faculty who are teaching at the Arkansas campus site in OMM, clinical, teaching, research, service and administration.
  • Assess the needs of the institution and the Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (AR) department and recruit and hire new faculty accordingly.
  • Regularly conduct faculty reviews of performance, work related issues, work effort allocations and areas to be improved.
  • Complete formal annual faculty evaluations for reappointment and promotion committee.
  • Create and manage department budget and participate in annual campus budget meetings.
  • Track and approve faculty requested time off, including vacation, sick, continuing medical education and personal time.
  • Support the Mission of NYITCOM:Participate in the outreach and/or community service activities of the college (includes Health Fairs, Free clinics, and local or Regional Outreach that involves students and/or the NYITCOM Mission) where possible.
  • Other duties as assigned to achieve NYITCOM-AR mission and strategic growth.


Qualifications

  • D.O. degree from a COCA approved school of osteopathic medicine is required
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible is required
  • Current, unrestricted Arkansas State Medical License is required
  • Completion of residency training with AOA board certification or CSP-OMM / NMM certification required
  • Preferred 5 years' experience in an academic setting / medical school setting with successful demonstration of educating medical students and other health/science related students
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills and timely responses by email communication
  • Strong team player with a positive attitude

  • Basic computer proficiency with the Microsoft suite

Preferences may be given to applicants who possess any or all of the following skills or attributes:

  • General knowledge in primary care and rural medicine.
  • Current proficiency (or ability to develop proficiency) in Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine theory and techniques.
  • Prior teaching experience (whether in classroom setting, in clinical setting, in CME, or in residency setting).
  • Demonstrated ability in leadership needed to achieve proficiency in academics and research.
